| Thoughts on: Avatar/Signature size/dimension limits.
I wanted to get some feedback on the limits/rules we have in place with regards to Avatars and Signature images.
Our current rules state
Signature images:
Please keep signature image size to 100kb or under
Please keep signature dimensions no more than 700x200 pixels
So I'm wondering, are those limits acceptable? or do you think they're to high or low?

I never had any problems with the current rules of avatar and signatures though I couldn't upload that data one =P but that is just one out of all the ones I tried though I never had a true animated one but that one
I like how it is now though I will say my oceanliner avatars that I have had up in the past are sometimes almost too small sense they are landscape going <---> and that one instead of up and down... err what do you call that... oh yeah! horizontal and vertical! horizontally would be nice if it was a little bigger just so my oceanliners show up alot prettier ^_^
But really no "real" complaints
I think the largest avatar I would ever use (if it was possible with settings) is my Invader Zim one that has a few frames... I have had it for a long time now and a friend made it for me

Just don't let them get too big. Actual posts sometimes get lost in the eye candy.

I thijnk that they are fine as is...no need for anything bigger.
Has anyone had trouble loading threads due to images? That, to me, would be the determining factor to se if they are too big...

Just for my own personal preference, I reduced my sigs in size, I like them smaller than the forum max. Since I normally only post a line or two when making a response, it doesn't seem right to have a huge sig and a few tiny words. |

i have mixed feeling about this....so if you continue reading, please be ready for my random thoughts i understand that there are rules for a reason and that the bigger an image(s) is, the harder it can be for people to open a thread(especially 56kers). on the other hand, nothing grids my gears like spending x-amount of hours on a 700x200 siggy just to finish it and find out that the file size is 2-10 times bigger then accepted*. what it all comes down to is someone's personal opinion on size. i for one like bigger/more detail, some one else may like smaller. with that being said, if it effects people that come to the forums for the first time and even for a moment puts a notion in their heads about not coming back(because of how long it takes to load)....i would be the first to say, smaller or remove them completely**.
*of course there are many ways around this problem. a few ideas would be changing the file format(gif) and/or resizing it. but any one that has tired these methods would agree, for the most part, that the "art work" loses ALOT of detail when doing so.
**this may be an interesting poll. with two different polls being set up. one for the 56kers and the other for dsl/cablers.

If there was someway of creating a unique style dependant on people's connection, I'd have no problem raising the limit, but I dont' think that can be done.
Hmm..or can it.....
heh

Ok I can't figure out a way for myself to do it, but, I've requested quotes for the ability for people to either block an individuals avatar/sig OR, specify the max sig/avatar they'll allow to load in a thread.
So if I were on dialup and didn't want people's signatures/avatars to load, which are over say...100kb, I could put in a max of 100kb and all those over that, wouldn't load
Is it possible? I dunno, but i've requested it, so we'll see

Would the "limit" only apply to sigs or would it affect pics in threads too?
