First off, I am new to the game and looking forward to getting stuck in as ultimas 5,6,7+serpent isle where pretty much where my childhood dissapeard.

Unfortunatly when attempting to patch the game so i can get going I keep on getting error messages and the game refuses to patch. I have hunted around the offical pages with no soloution and am currently waiting for a reply from ea.

I think it has something to do with windows vista

Has anyone else had this issue? is it fixable?

I have also noticed that windows vista wont let me manualy change files like ini files etc and i think that this may have something to do with it.

Not fully dove into Vista yet, but give me a couple more weeks and I'll have it discected enough to run UO & all the programs.

But your issue sounds like it might be a "Rights or Permission" problem. Make sure you've got Admin rights, and you can read/write to the directories/folders necessary.

yes your right, it seems that vista automaticaly slaps a read only on all files created other than ones created via word/exel etc and so far i can find "no way to change that" you can change it out of read only but as soon as you leave the file it slaps the tag straight back on! guess im gunna be hunting for my XP disks...

i have vista business edition and have had no problems patching. I did disable User Access Control, though, so that might be why I have no problems. (I got sick of Vista asking my permission for everything).

I disabled it using Method 1 via the control panel -
