I'm having a crisis of faith as far as Ultima is concerned. I'm not a divvy (You'll have to take my word on that) any MMORPG I've played usually gives me a learning curve of 1 week to a month to settle in and get used to it. I was walking around on my mage earlier in some sweet armour thanks to Lord Paidric and GM resist spells then a normal bog standard liche managed to kill me b4 I could even get one measly fireball off.

It's not a case of being killed a few times and I know UO is big, I mean its had 10 years to grow but I feel like every time I get anywhere on it theres always something to kick me in the balls.

I think for the first month I was shielded by both young player status (I think 40 hours is too much, you get too comfy) and nostalgia. Now I'm left with a big chisel and I'm chiseling away a little a time but I'm not that happy with what I'm seeing or the fact that bits keep hittin me square in the noggin.

I know a lot of people probably play mostly because they have a lot a friends on UO and don't get me wrong it's got one of the best communities I've seen. But when it comes down to it why should I play? What is there in UO that I can't get elsewhere?

Am I just going to find an average game when I've put hours and hours more time in or is it all going to be worth it? So really I'm just looking for someone to tell me how good it gets or to cut my losses and move on? Like the title says, why play?

Only problem with guilds is I'm really shy when it comes to meeting people.

You have hit the nail on the head there is nothing in UO you cant find elsewhere. However it will take many different games to replace this one. UO is such a diversified game with so many different options available to you it would take literally yrs to master all of them and then try to adjust/readjust your characters to different scenarios. This game is exactly whatever you want it to be. It never ends there is no end game it is a constantly shifting and evolving game with limitless potential. Whether you RP or group or solo or mix all the above, whether you craft/gather/farm, whether you are a pure caster or a hack and slasher it fits everyones idea of whats the best way to play. Limitless options is the beauty mixed with an endearing community makes it great and untouchable overall. Hope this helps you to decide

Aye, UO is the true reflection all others try to emulate. Merth put it well, and I have but to agree. We may have seen better days, but even our worst moments outshine most other games.

That is one reason why you see so many returnees, they get burned out with the "grind" or the single dimension games, and come back home.

Get yourself in a guild. I've found UO has the friendliest community. I've played this game for 7 years (took 3 years off recently) and boy did I miss the community.

It's extremely lonely playing by yourself. Everything in this game can be done with small groups. Only a couple PVP scenarios and a couple of those Paragon/Peerless/bottom of dungeons need a group.

But i miss all the people I've played this. It's like looking back on a second life. No other came has been able to replicate this.

UO IS the last and only game of its kind, Youl never find a game like it matey I kept quiting on and of when i first started untill i got good but then it was all worth it, All theo ther games like WoW, RS, GW none are as diverse and skillbased as UO and none will be slightly like it

Thank you all It all helped I think I'll try a treasure hunter That way I can get taken places in relative safety, I'll have to be with people so I'll be 'forced' to make friends but y'know in a good way. I'll be able to find things for other toons and other people a well.

ALL guilds need a treasure hunter. They are a valuable commodity. Tabbitha, do you know of anyone with a spare lockpicking scroll of alacrity? He can use that to get to GM lockpicking from 95, or go to swoops and get discorded.
