Well, when I came back from my 1.5yrs away from UO a few people helped me out. I didn't complin, didn't go "mental" in the guild or anything.
We still hang out together and have loads of fun.
Anyway just letting you know not everyone that gets help turns out to be a "guildie from hell"

Take them into your guild...yes
help and assist them.....yes

but if you got to give them things DON'T give them the 'good gear', they will not respect the goods or the giver.

We've all been newbies and even if she has played the game before she is a newbie in the modern game......a lot of the fun is to find, explore and earn your life in the game.

But saying all that....

As a returning player, I agree that people being nice, can some what be burned. Thats why I feel it not proper to ask for extreem help, except fyis on what the changes had been.

I prefer to fend for my self as much as possible. Everyone can become self sufficient, or we wouldn't want to play UO.

I will normally do my part to help out those in need, for younger players I'll give them a basic survival means. Mage types I give will set them up with a very basic medable LRC suit, runebook with some key runes, a full spell book if they don't already have one and I will throw about 50k at them for insurance. Warriors I do about the same thing for cept I will piece together a suit with 45-50 resists in all resists and rune book and a weapon decent enough to kill the basic creatures they'll need to kill to train on/make gold from.

Most the time I will have people earn these goods if they are young noobie players by having them farm something simple, yes simple to farm just time consuming and boring lol. I will take them to haven and have them farm bones for me and such or take them to lizardmen and have them farm spined for me.

For returning vets I'm willing to give a little bit more to, such as a minor artie here and there depending on thier street cred and who refered them to me and such. Someone I can trust to give me the stuff back if they desided to quit again I'm willing to share some of my finer goods with. Anyway I'm for the most part the same as most on my shard I get a bit leary of helping the "New" players but I normally still assist them cause you never know who will be the next big person on your shard. The ones you help could very well become the ones that help you most in the future, I guess that's why I continue to help others. I'm a firm believer in Karma and I believe in the what comes around goes around theory. Help others and eventually you will be helped, even if it's in a little way.

In my opinion you did the right thing by helping this person out. I would have waited a bit on giving them the higher end items until I knew what kind of player they turned out to be, but you still did a good deed. Being kind to a person is not a crime. You will not always have a grateful person, but for the most part, folks will be grateful and remember what you did. They will also be more likely to pass on that kindness. I remember being taken under the wing when I first started UO. Tram was a new, Fel was full and I ended up in Fel, not even knowing what it was. I was ganked a lot but kept on building my character. I met a guy out in the woods one day who let me join his guild, gave me gm armor and weapons(The best armor/weapons you could get in the game at the time), and had the guildies help me train my character. I never forgot that kindess and have passed it on as best I can. I do it because it makes me feel good. If the person doesnt end up appreciating it, oh well. I still did a good deed and Im proud I did it. Keep on helping. You make UO a better place by cultivating others who will help down the road.

We all need and had a guiding hand when we first started out. Me i was lucky enough to start UO when it was cutting edge and before Trammel spoilt it, when Reds roamed the lands and preyed on young ones like myself back then. In my first 2 days i was lucky to find my mentor and guy called Amroth who took me too the RP town of Deepwater on Europa, there i learnt to fight in Barbarella's duelling school and made some wonderful friends, some who i still know now, nearly 7 years later.

So i also offer anyone who needs it the same help i got.

I got scammed of a ring and a pair of blue boots. He needed help with gear so I gave him that and then he cried out "HAHA SCAMMED" and ran away. I just stood there.. "wtf.." lol. Rough when they don't appreciate (sp?) the help they get though, especially when they get helped a lot.

"No Kind act goes unpunished." Much easier to have them renounce their young status, show them to Felucca, kill them. Let them roam looking for a healer and a way out. They will never ask for help again. Revenge is the best motivator in keeping someone in UO. This style of play has done wonders for me.

Lol yep I will admit there are a few peeps that I'm out for, and I will probably never quit until I kill them repeatedly O.o.
