Now, if both Maddux and I hacked and PK'd I don't think there would be anyone left in UO.

We have chased off alot of weak and timid uo players who couldn't cut it in pvp or even in rp.

That's a shame. Nothing makes me sadder in UO than someone who dies to me taking it really hard and saying they want to quit the game. I really, really hate when that happens

I never did understand how people could take something done in game and worry about it IRL. But oh well, atleast they moved on.

You spend thousands of hours in the game on your characters. If pvp is important to you but your characters just keep getting clobbered, why wouldn't it affect people in real life.

I wouldn't call it gimp, more so lame... but when people either say that "you suck, blah blah cause you gank"... and then that very same person and his very same guild turn and do the same. Jump in and gank in a 1v1, jump in and gank on a 1v0, and just gank anyone for the heck of it. Everyone ganks, but I can't stand hypocrites.

If you're blue, don't walk into a pile of reds w/o anticipating a gank. If you're red, don't go into a pack of blues expecting a 1v1. And if you don't want to pvp at all, don't go into fel.


Another gimp I hate is bushido. Impossible for a mage to kill a samuri, I never land a hit w/o them being disarmed, and if you're a mage, and not a tank mage, then you can't really disarm. Not only is it difficult for a mge, but a necro/ or mage/fencer who disarms then, then has to get close enough to do it again and again, and manage to get loff enough spells in those 2 seconds disarmed to kill them.

Interesting observation. I find it to be usually the opposite.

If you happen to come across a screen of reds, unless the reds are imbeciles, the best behavior is to trot up and say hi as if there's nothing unusual.

A screen of reds are more likely to pk a blue that acts scared than a blue that acts like they're home.

I've seen it tons of times. I've been on newbie chars on a horse in bucs den and walked up to a bunch of reds that just killed a blue. I'd trot up and say hi, and they'd say something like, "We just killed a trammie. hahaha."

How do they know the guy they killed was a trammie and i'm not? They don't. But they're more likely to not kill someone that doesn't act scared.

Not on my shard. Yew gate is what I was referring to... as that, and spawns, are the only place you'll find large groups (4+) of reds or blues, but in general... if you're not a guildie of theirs, you're an enemy. Whether you say hi or bye.

Don't get me wrong, after a while you get to know the people and alot of people have no problem standing in the middle of the mix and not getting touched. It's all in who you know...that... or you've earned respect. But believe me when I say that if you are targeted by anyone, there are other ppl there just waiting for the opportunity to jump in on someone else's fight. I jump in on my stealther all the time. That's what she's made for. On my real chars, I don't. I try not to get involved with someone else's fight. I don't like when other ppl jump in mine.

But for the most part, looking at yew gate, it's nothing but a gank. On my blue, I hug the guards so I can flag one person and pull them off, and not run into a pile of 5-7 of their fellow red guildmates, and not have everyone standing in the gate flag on my fight. Most of the time teh blues in guards do not attack my target, depending on which guild I'm fighting. If I step out of guards 3 explos hit me from 3 different targets.

Now, certain guilds, it seems, the blues that hug the gate are afraid of (not I!) because they never seem to attack any of them unless it's by total gank (already half life or lower with 4 ppl on them). However, other reds that may step into guards will usually see a ganking by the blues.

Lately on chessy...there are 2 guilds that are most seen at the gate. !C! and [M]. M is primarily blues that hug the gate, where as C are reds that hang just off screen from the gate. M has reds, and C blues, but primarily you see a vast difference in red/blue count between the two guilds.

You response is not untrue tho. On my red, or any char, I have a hard time being mean to nice people. If someone started a conversation with me, I'd leave em alone, cause it's the game's people that are the reason I play in the first place. Now if you just came up and said "hi!" I'd probably kill ya.

After reading the posts on this topic, I have a question for everyone...
Do you think it would benifit UO to make Moongates NON guarded zones? (And would be true for Fel and Tram)

No... I mean in pvp it'd make it a lot different, not in a bad way either!

But for the crafters, townies, noobies, and anyone NOT looking for pvp, the guard zones are a way for them to safely journey place to place w/o wakling out the gate - revealing themselves - and having a pk invised just waiting for them. It takes too long to navigate the gump (especially when nervous).

I do think that gates should remain gz, but only for those who havent flagged. I say make it like WoW is. Once you flag on someone, you are open for anyone to attack, so you dont have people going in, picking 1 target, then hugging the gate staying safe from the rest of their red friends. This would hopefully kill gate fighting, and bring it out to the dungeons and open fields WHERE IT BELONGS!

No. If they did this, no one would go to fel, ever. Red's would just camp every moongate all day long. No one goes to fel anymore other than to fight at yew, do champ spawns, or collect resources. However, there is some good news. I have used some of my connections and have heard that they will be bringing back penalties to being red. However, what those penalties will be is still in debate. I'm just glad they're finally addressing this.
