Oh, hey, while I think of it, maybe you should add your idea to the posting rules: How do we compensate players for the removal/change of said subject?

Re: Whats Broken, Why is it Broke and How ..

From a "late dropper inner':
I have never liked the addition of magic apples and talismen to the game. I agree that skill and experience should be the determining factors. That said, it brings me to a 'crossing of the line' in this forums theme. It is critical to experienced, skilled players that those qualities serve them as they should. This is not happening.

Since I don't know anything about PvP, I will use blacksmithing/mining as my example. "In the good old days" (like 3 or 4 years ago) you went out and mined and smelted your way to Grandmaster. Along the way to that Mining Grandmaster, you gained a pretty fair degree of Smithing. You kept mining, bods came in.. you thought woopie!! can make a little cash while I gain my skills..... You sweated and mined and did bods and finally after weeks and weeks of work, you Grandmastered. Two weeks later, Power Scrolls fell into the world. Suddenly, your Grandmaster was almost worthless. Smithing legendary PS were almost unattainable. Besides, people no longer wanted your crafted armor. Ok.. that's bad enough.. you go ahead mine and do bods to earn money.. but the bods are not paying for the ore... You get stupid ore finding hammers and gargoyle picks and pickaxes and shovels... and lots of non matching bods..... Miners and Smiths are a resiliant lot, so we adapt.. we turn to our tailoring.. It makes a little more money anyway even though it's not nearly as hard to do, simply because you can turn out more of them in faster time than if you mine the ore yourself.

Oh OH.!!! Now we find we can't sell our ore... it's worthless because 'farmers' are undercutting us. OSI answer is: make it harder to mine and smelt and use high grade ores... good... real good... who do you think takes the fall on that... the honest miners who can no longer mine Valorite and smelt it and have enough to use. Mine 20 large ore... get two ingots.... That's taking care of the right people now isn't it?

My point is, we wouldn't need talismen to up our skill if our skill meant anything in the first place. We work for it, then it's useless so use a band aid and give a talisman that ups your smithing ... That's not what is needed.

We don't need Magic Apples... even though my poor cook has absolutely NO REASON to exist gamewise, because we can't eat... why cook.... Potions and spells already cover the same ground as Magic Apples... We had attributes on items for invisibility and resistances.. those got nerfed.

We are in a game of tug of war and the OSI Gods give one year and the OSI Gods take away a couple years later. Making a plan and logically following it would be an excellent plus to this game. Items have become too important.. and that comes from someone who loves to collect pretties for decorating her home. I don't say go back to pre AOS or whatever the rallying call might be. I just think it's time that we put to use what and who we are. Make our skills be valuable and useful, don't just toss out items that someone can sell us. Let out miners be able to mine fine ores at a reasonable rate of return. Let our Smiths be able to craft armor and weapons that are worth using and not overshadowed by tons of 'so called' rare items that aren't even close to rare. We wouldn't need insurance, if that bothers someone, because the smith could make us a new set....

Make our skills useful. Is that so much to ask? My house is full of stuff that wasn't even in the game 4 years ago, and truth be told, most of it I will never use. I probably have 40 talismen that I kept because they sounded like they had good attributes, but in the long run, I will never use them. The only ones I use are those that boost my skill up enough so that I don't fail at things I should already be able to do at my skill level. Things I could do before PS were introduced and Grandmasters became obsolete. I am nearing Legendary smithing... now is the time to make that worthless too.

This made me think...
Why talismans, charms and special items don't suck in Diablo? Is it because they're better implemented? Better placed in the game system? No.
Diablo doesn't have skills.

Think about it, why do a thing that's tried and tested in many games doesn't fit right in UO?
Skills. In UO we alrady have a way of becoming +11 BS, just train it.
What do you guys think about it?

Good point. Didn't think of it that way. But in reality, it did the same thing to UO as it did in Diablo, make it too "god-like" for those that can obtain the items.

In Diablo, the new items that have come out let you have abilities that come from different builds (i.e. abilities from a Paladin on any other type of character) much like items in UO do the same (UBWS, Mage Weapon, Petals+Trapped Box=Resists, etc.). Same problems exist in both games (over scripting/farming/game abuse to obtain items for selling/trading, once items are had they never disappear, etc.) but the difference is, that stuff is needed in Diablo, not so much in UO.

Snowy you are my hero!

Truth be told I fell in love with UO because of the mining and blacksmithing system. My first character was a blacksmith/warrior, and I had a wonderful time running around mining and smelting my ore. However soon my dreams were smashed over the back of the head with the hefty shovel of reality. I hit GM smithing, threw a small party for myself, and then soon after found out GM smithing was basically useless as far as the average player was concerned. In order to produce anything that anyone would use you had to have runic valorite hammers and 120 skill. My enthusiasm turned to jaded dismay.

Thats what is broked the most to me. Blacksmiths need to be useful again.

Hence why we should have Spellcrafting in UO to make it more even out.

Re: Whats Broken, Why is it Broke and How ..

I have 2 things on the UO Punchlist:

A
1. Satyrs- these pains in the a$$ can peace you. These leave you nearly powerless for a period of time. That's all fine and good but there should be a way to resist them.
2. You can resist magic from a magic user by utilizing the resist spells skill. I feel that this is something that is broken because there is no counter-action or reaction.
3. The fix is easy. The music skill should be used to thwart the satyr's song. The higher the music skill the better chance you have to deflect it.

B
1. This is probably me just crying like a baby, but; I have been fighting Lady Mel for 2 years almost every night. If you are on Cats, and have gone to Mel, I'm sure you can validate this, cause I'm there a lot. I have never received anything but ingreds from that wench.
2. Not sure if this is something that is broken or intended. I have been in that peerless room 1000+ times. I do plenty of damage to her. MR, focus, med and elder eval make sure of that. I cast spells constantly in there. After thousands of hit points in damage to Lady Mel, nuttin'.....For two years, nuttin'.
3. This fix is super simple. Gimme a Crimmy.............................

B was just for kicks............True and painful............but for kicks.
