The discussion of freeshards is NOT allowed. Dont go into the names, dont go into your experience on them, dont go into how you think they are better than EA. Just dont do it. ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: What UO used to be, and still should be. hmmm my thoughts well..... as for a pre tramm shard you have the same rule set on the siege shards and they ain't that popular! no reason to do a pre-tramm rule set go play on siege. as for pre-AOS all I remember is that the best item you could hope to get was a vanquishing weapon and most of the people that had them kept them in a bank so they would not loose them ya that's fun!!!!! as for pre t2a my god anybody that thinks that that is a good idea is insane!! you can look even on this forum and see the posts of people that quit UO at that time and there was a reason it was horrible! What people remember and like was the "newness" of it. it was the first MMO and that was exciting, not the code. I tried a ah..... free shard shhh... with old rules and I was board in 5 min. and never tried one again. even now I still do not see a MMO out there that can compare to the scope of UO. it may not be shiny and new but the current version still offers more then what I have seen in other games and older rule sets. the only things I look back on and miss are the people I played with not the code of the game. from what I see and remember(me gots very very good memory) the development that is going into UO now is the most exciting stuff I have ever seen. I look forward to what will become instead of what has died(and for good reasons) if they went back to a pre t2a server that would be the end of me in UO and I am a charter member (I still can't come up with a good reason why I played through that horrible time, I think that I just kept going hoping that they would fix it!). anyhow them are me thoughts agree, disagree me don't care ![]() hmm should I get the polar bear or not.................... ![]() *Insert fabulous signature here* |

What i did like with uo in beginning was that it was realistic... as much as it was possible.. then came trammel.. a fluffy no scary land.. with no challanges at all. In Trammel i can run all over the world without fear of getting attacked by a player or monster.. (Since the monsters just suck and can be soloed by any player with bit of sense), Whats fun in that? Removing Trammel? ... No. The harm is already done. The mindset in the players are different than it was. To remove trammel they need to add heavy statloss again to remove alot of the reds.. the red players with no skill (which are plenty at moment).. There need to be many changes.. and i guess the reds that will surely die after less than a week into this will complain and say it sucks.. because they just werent good enough. leads to they will quit... Some blues will quit before they even tried it.. Since they are too afraid. The few reds and blues that stay will enjoy it... and live in harmony in good/evil.... sadly they are too few for EA.. EA closes server.. ![]() ![]() |

![]() | Re: What UO used to be, and still should be. When I was researching the history of UO AoS was made out by every source I found to be the start of a decline in quality of Ultima. Decardo told me that since then there has been more of a magical item bias towards UO. I'm not new to MMORPG's but I am to UO and the item bias obviously comes from Diablo 2, which quite frankly I find about as fun to play as watching paint dry (clicking non-stop ergh). Anyway AoS was obviously EA's attempt at capturing a share of the Diablo 2 market both in magical items and shockingly (not!) taking the arguably 2 most popular classes in Diablo (Necro and Pally) and putting them in Ultima. It really is a sad thought that one of the Grandaddies of all graphical MMORPG's then became a partial rip off a game that was sub-par but had more appeal because it was bloodier and less thought intensive. It's kinda like if Eddie Van Halen had decided around 1987 to start playing like Slash. Thats all I can really say and I have no right really to say that but hey its an open forum right? |

UO's subscriber figures peaked at 250k at AOS's launch, then started going down It went from 250k, to roughly 135k in June 2006 I have no idea what the figure is at now, as far as I know, it's gone down a small amount, but also risen a bit to. Those figures are from the mmorpgchart.com site, which isn't in anyway official, but one developer from EA told me personally, "he has a good source" I don't think AOS was solely responsible for that drop, as there were other games coming out at that time, or around abouts, but I do think AOS was a mess | |
