Re: What The Diffrence

resist does a few thigns...

1) gives you a base number resist (44 at 120 i believe)
2) it gets compared to eval when you are being casted at... if its higher than the eval of the caster it reduces the damage - if eval is higher you will take full damage
3) after that calculation is done, it gives you a base attempt at resisting the spell completely... higher your resist = higher chance

the number resists (ones you get from armor and such) are percent damage reductions as i understand... so if someone flamestrikes you, you will take 30% damage if you have 70 fire resist.

Re: What The Diffrence

If I'm not mistaken, in addition to what The87 said - magic resist only decreases your damage taken from magic spells. It won't help at all against melee damage. Your armor resist will protect you from weapon-induced damage.

(ie. it's not an either/or proposition - I wouldn't suggest being 120 in magic resist and running around naked with no armor).

Re: What The Diffrence

Magic Resist assists you in resisting status-changing spells or debuffs. It is helpful against curses, the poison spell, paralyze.

Resists on armor decrease physical and elemental damage. Most monsters do physical damage, some do elemental damage in addition to this. Your armor protects against this.
