what do you think about the current economy?

good for buyers?

good for sellers?

think EA crackin' down on sellers on ebay had a direct influence on it?

discuss.

Re: what do you think about the current economy?

I think the crackdown on scripters and the BoS changes have made it harder for the folks that don't have 40 hours a week to play UO to buy higher end goods.

As far as I know, it wasn't EA who cracked down on eBay. It was eBay who decided they would no longer allow the sale of virtual goods due to the high level of fraud complaints it generated on their end. That change doesn't seem to have affected much. Personally, I still buy items/gold for cash when necessary through the various former eBay sellers that opened web sites for themselves.

The eBay bit happened - what, spring time of 07? I haven't noticed a change in the economy till recently, after the BoS changes - but only in the sense that it's harder to find some higher end goods for sale, at least on less populated shards like LA.

Re: what do you think about the current economy?

I think it's heavily influenced by the wealthier players and out of game sellers. Those with limited funds will always be overbid or underfunded on rare and desired items. I was able to afford only one 120 magery ps even though I wish I could get more for my other characters. I doubt many new players can afford one with in game gold. This is where the real life profiteers make their bread and butter. Scripters, scammers, and cheaters are still prevalent in our realm, siphoning the gold and top end goods with impunity. The playing field is filled with potholes and still needs fixing in my opinion.

What is the impact of the BoS changes? I have rarely used the dang things and just don't know.

The ability to quickly unload a full backpack of gold to the bank has went from 30, 20-25k (600-750k) stacks at the cost of between 10-20k has changed to 1 stack of 15k at the cost of 21-30k now after the changes.

Disclaimer: The after the changes cost is a guestimate depending on the price of Powder of Translocation, I do not know the going price now after the changes. The amount able to be sent with BoS is based on the 10 stones = 1 charge, if that isn't how it is, then that is not correct.

Re: what do you think about the current economy?

DiP, it is 10 stones per charge. You can now send 15k gold with a full 30 charge BOS. Based on most vendors selling powder and/or bags for between 700-1000 per charge, it now costs more to send the gold than it is worth. I've basically started using packies to carry gold. Park them outside a dungeon and make your runs to them.

Re: what do you think about the current economy?

Thanks for the clarification JFK.

Guess it's uglier than I first thought, and that's not a bad thing.

Re: what do you think about the current economy?

The fix for the little guy (casual player) is simple imo. Just go do the quest a few times and stock up, put 30 bos's in your pack and farm like normal, yes it will take a little longer having to do the quests to load up on powder but with 30 bags in your pack you can do a full days farming easy.

Wish it was that easy. BOS do not come stocked with powder. So I would have 30 BOS with about 3-5 charges per. Worthless.

Yeah I could do the powder quests too. But when would I get the chance to actually play the game?? I'd be too busy farming powder/bags.

I like to buy my powder. I don't have time to farm all day.

None of this really bothers me. I played the game before BOS and have no problem recalling to a bank.

But the situation still sucks. Going on guild hunts used to be fun. Now I have to worry about getting my gold back to the bank or to the person handling that. I don't know. I guess it takes away from the hunting part of things.
