Re: Vista ?

Haven't tried it myself

When you say not working, what happens when he tries to launch it? or install it?

Re: Vista ?

I would recommend not using Vista till they update to UOKR. You have to remember, UO was designed to work on windows 95. Vista might be too advanced for it till it gets a revamp.

If your friend bought a new computer, consider downgrading to XP, till Vista's bugs get all worked out.

Re: Vista ?

I'm running the 2D client with no problems on the 32 bit edition of Vista Business. Haven't tried 3D.

Re: Vista ?

I'd suggest opening ms-dos, typing "Format c:" then "yes" or "y". Then putting in a "Windows 95/98" cd in the cd-rom, followed by any UO cd.

Re: Vista ?

vista is backward compatible with software that runs on XP. the only programs i've read of problems with are system admin related tools (virus scanners, packet burning cd recording features, etc). and even most of those have been patched or updated by their manufacturers to run with vista.

the majority of people reporting trouble with vista are having problems with their hardware not being supported, not the software. if your hardware is supported (which you can check before even beginning the installation), UO will run fine.

Re: Vista ?

The bad thing about buying a new computer right now is that they all come with Vista, so there's no way around it. I think it'd be funny if someone was purchasing a new computer and asked to not get Vista. The look on the sales person would be either one of two looks. Either astonishment that you would do such a thing, or understanding cause he/she knows Vista sucks right now too, lol.
