Hello! I purchased The Eighth Age for my wife for Christmas. We have been trying to work with the game. But I am completely lost....according to the back of the box, it said that it comes with 6 expansion packs. I am not sure how to access these....2nd, it is my understanding that this game has been around for 8 years with different versions. Where should we go to try and learn this game? Both of us play games alot, but this one is very perplexing, the book included doesn't really explain much, and the EA website is difficult (in my opinion) to find anything on. Basically, we are very, very lost, and we don't know what we are doing? lol.....we even looked at the manual, but we are still lost?

We can't both be that clueless, or are we? lol.....Any suggestions??? Thanks!

Ok, first off, the six expansions... you should've recieved an Account Creation code in the box. Go to ultima-registration.com and create an account using that code if you already haven't. That will enable you to play the original Ultima Online, and all of the expansion packs up through Samurai Empire. Ok, to learn the game,.... the best way (in my Opinion) is to delve into the game and just start playing it. But, if you do have any questions, you can either make a post here in the "Ask A Question" forum, or look for it on uo.stratics.com (although a good bit of that information is a tad out of date).

You are up to the Samurai Empire expansion which is the previous version,
just recently (november) the Mondain Legacy expansion was introduced but
have no fear you are good to go with 99% of it all


What shard did you choose to play on? My family and I play mostly on the
Sonoma shard and will be happy to show you around there.
Once you get a feel for your shard, and decide what you would really like to
do with your characters then you can adapt to the gameplay.
For myself, I am a non fighting character and mostly do crafting skills (tailor,
chef, etc.) and merchant (have vendors to help others with their needs)
My hubby is a fighter and thief ... so again it is mostly what you want to do.


There are many tutorials available to help you with the skills that you and
your wife choose to go with. Skills Section
Also, ask away with all your questions and folks here will do their best to assist.

The box is a bit odd to understand. When they say you have the first 6 expansions that means you will be able to access all the lands and skills up to and including Samurai Empires. (there has been one expansion since then but you can worry about that later)
When you create a new character there are quest you take to help learn the game interface. I don't care how many games you played before but you better do the intro quests

You are far from alone - UO has a nearly vertical learning curve. Stick with it though - it's worth it. The others gave some good advice.

Welcome to the world of UO. It is confusing for sure when you are starting out and it helps to be on a shard where you know someone. At the very least, you should spend a little time at this confusingly full site: http://uo.stratics.com/

There are guides for every profession and situation. It sometimes takes a while to navigate to the correct areas, but you can learn lots there. UO has 'grown' and changed over the years, but the basic play stays mostly the same. The changes to the game have been in added professions, items, lands and such. Read a bit on Stratics, sign in to one of the Forums for new players either here or there. (Sometimes you will run into people with chips on their shoulders there.. well.. that happens everywhere..) Ask questions, don't be afraid they sound dumb.. we all started out as "Newbies" whether some want to admit it or not!!

what shard did you start on? There are lots of friendly people in game, many will answer your questions in game too. If your on chesapeake, I'll meet with you to answer questions too.
