UOKR ...free?

taken from Thread :- UOKR ...free? found in UO.UHall

A diff thread of the Stygian Abyss thread, I checked out the other link -
UOKR

If I'm reading the Babelfish translation right, it says that currently active player will be able to download and install UOKR for free..

Am I reading this right?

###########################

Wow that would be nice! Especially for all the people who will need to buy a new PC to play KR anyway, at least they will save on the cost of the client! I just wish translations were more accurate, sometimes they read like total nonsense!

############################
you can download ML and install it for free.

But you'll need to buy a code to upgrade your account to play the content.

Seems to me KR will be exactly the same deal.

############################

One of my assumptions is that without installing the new client(free download as you say), whether you upgrade or not, you will not be able to run UO.

So in effect the old hacked, cracked and vulnerable client will be long forgotten within a month and there won't be incidents where players will keep running on old software(for obvious reasons).

It's not a bad tactic if the download is going to be free you know..

############################

They cannot force players to change client and the old one is hacked.

Some computers will not manage it,
So there will be an intermediate time, probably from KR to next expansion where both clients work and maybe then when enough people switched one will fade out.

############################

I'd like to see official confirmation of those specs. Because if that's the minimum we don't quite make it.

Will we be able to play 2d as now till we can upgrade? or will new content be denied to us if we can't see it with new client?

Specs at current, for 2 of us playing on 2 machines.
997mhz Athlon
512mb ram
GeForce 2 x 400

950mhz Duron
384mb ram
GeForce 4.

apparently ur not familiar with EA...

they can & they will do whatever they want & since us mmo folks are @ the btm of the list, ea doesnt care, theyre too busy making sports games to care about us...

shown in cust support [mainly the lack of] and how they treat customers [once u get a hold of a rep] EA has far bigger things to care about then us which is the main reason a good portion of us will quit... the KR client looks spiffy and all, but its not uo. just like the red-headed step child of a 3d client its not uo, which is y like 4 ppl use the 3d client... im sure more ppl will use the KR client then the 3d [which isnt saying much] but thatll most likely be bc they force us

##########################

It has been said many times before that they will run both the old client and new client at the same time for awhile.....2d/3d will be seperate but they WILL Be phasing it out slowly so that it will ALL eventually be 3d new client. We will have time upgrade if that is your choice.

#########################

If you cannot meet these specs:

* CPU 1 GHz
* Memory 512MB
* Graphics GeForce 3
* Empty capacity of hard disk 2 GB

Then you havne't bought a computer in over 4+ years. I mean seriously come on, computers like this are trahsed everyday. Go to www.dell.com or www.ebay.com and you can find these systems for a few hundred bucks if not less.

All the bitching about upgrading, i cannot believe it, if you dont wanna upgrade the load d2 on your computer and go play that and let my ultima evolve with the time. Please Dev team let Ultima Online evolve with the times we are living in, please don't let it die with the users who are sill using 933mhz athlon or junk like that

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I really don't get you people..

Wanna know my main computer's specs after my most recent upgrade? I am not gonna brag, just gonna try and make you see it from my perspective, in early 2007!

I got that latest NVidia GeForce 8800 uber graphics card, a 21" monitor(one of those flat screens), I don't even remember how much RAM I shoveled in and the CPU is Dual Core Intel blah-blah, can't even remember the names anymore.
And I run a 4Mbit con. which is sufficient, period! I play WoW and L2, Second Life and Battlefield 2142 recently added too, nothing wrong with this connection. When the other guy is not speedhacking I'm keeping up just fine and never lag in UO.

And pretty much the same stands for the other 3 comps on my home network. I manage to keep them ALL up to date.

Now back to the point..
For all that I paid around 1000 Euro or something and most went for the card and its cooler and the monitor, now you do the conversion to USD or Pounds.

Soooo I am sure you can stop pretending and go buy a nice average comp with less than half this money, within 20-30 days of saving up and you won't even miss them, dunno.. put it on your card, arrange to pay a small amount monthly, you know how it goes. And you already have much faster connections than my stupid 4Mbit from what I gather.

But my point is, how come people tell me to upgrade either my connection or computer when they shoot past me like motha-****as in-game and then come and whine about UO:KR not supporting their 433 Cyrix or whatever... Or their Voodoo 3 or some other junk? And how come there was this thread a little time ago where everyone was bragging about their 12 home computers all able to play ANY game maxed out? Remember that thread, huh?

Make up your mind!? Do I need to upgrade? Do YOU? Do you have or not, 12 computers than look like they came from the future or do you have 2 Cyrix 166? Do you have 12347Mbit optic cable or modem? Heh.. I think I need not say more.

To me it's all *major BS*, all you legit players saying you refuse to upgrade.. Well sorry guys, there's still Pac-Man for you if you're THAT retro.. And seeing how you keep mentioning Pac-Man doesn't need graphics to be fun, well happy gaming with that yellow blob running around, I'll miss you and all but that's that.

And if you're gonna bring up money issues because of you quitting, I am absolutely CERTAIN that the amount of players REFUSING to play UO because of old graphics is AT LEAST DOUBLE the amount of players UO will lose because of new graphics. So yeah, do go away if you must and it's a shame but.... that's life. It only goes forward, like progress. Stop your whine against UO's progress.

Plus the rest of us want to get up to date... Stone Age's over... Get over it.

#########################

Actually, stand back and maybe think a little. Some people necessarily aren't in the fortunate position to upgrade thier computers every X years. You can't not expect to upset customers of a 10 year game by the point this comes out, with a graphical and interface upgrade, that they can't use because UO, one of the few games their systems can still comfartably run, no longer works. Some people financially may not have a choice but to quit. I'm not anywhere near this bracket, but before people jump on others backs, perhaps a little thinking wouldn't go amiss.

Your automatically making assumptions about your average gamer, which simply isn't true.

Whilst I agree the game needs to move forward, I can also understand how this is going to seriously affect certain players.

Hey, all, here's the deal:

The Atlanta Town Hall meeting was intended to be the big reveal for all these details. (We're doing a huge press event as I type this, but the press was not going to use the info until next week.) The info going up on the Japanese page was the result of a miscommunication - I'm bummed our thunder was sort of stolen, so y'all who are coming to the meeting - act surprised when we announce stuff, ok?

Because we had no intention of releasing this info to the community this week, we're not prepared to answer questions or release further info right now. We'll be showing the stuff on it detail in Atlanta - so show up there, or stay tuned for reports!

Re: UOKR ...free?

Lets put it this way, the guy whinning about the whinners is right. You can't complain that the game hasn't been updated and then when they pull their fingers out and update, ya'll whine some more saying your PC is too slow. "You can't have your cake and eat it" English proverb for those of you that don't know!!!! I'm looking forward to having a new client. And I can't wait to see what happens. I'm getting tired of all the broken tiles and things that they've never bothered to fix.

All I wanna know, is how do I get on the Beta testing?????

Re: UOKR ...free?

I think that they have already started the first round of the closed Beta. The KR Test Server that popped up in the general server list for a few min is the best proof of that...

From looking at the screens, I really dont think its going to take that much more processing power than the current 2d client. Im thinking that even the people with under a Gig processor will be alright if they have at least 512 RAM and an AGP slot that is at least 4x.

Re: UOKR ...free?

One guy made a statement about the "average" gamer. Seemed to imply they would not have a high end system. I consider myself less then an average gamer. By that I mean I only play UO. I have not tried/played any other online games. Now I am addicted to UO so that may push me back up to average . My old system would easily meets the specs they mentioned. So someone who plays several online games I would "guess" would not even blink an eye at those specs.

Dip since you still run that 486 could you give me a little help. My 8086 can't read a drive bigger then 512 MB. Do you think I can spread UOKR over five partitions and it still work?

Re: UOKR ...free?

It could work Vepl, although it would probably create massive lag whenever data from different partitions were used. Also considering the fact that the 8086 itself would probably die of old age (I forget, is it 5 computer years per 1 human year? making it roughly 140 yrs old) or continuously re-boot due to alzheimers, I don't recommend it.

Re: UOKR ...free?

Ok, so let me get this straight....

I'm running a 2.0GHZ Celeron processor, with 256MB DDR SDRam memory, and 64MB DDR SDRam of Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics with up to 64MBs of shared video memory (I'm reading the sticker on the front of my CPU now). So all I need is an updated video card and some more memory to play KR? As much as I want a whole new computer, I think I could afford the GEForce card and some more memory.

Re: UOKR ...free?

You shouldn't have to upgrade to play Kingdom Reborn if you have purchased a computer this millennium (within the past 7 years).
