OOHHH.. I see thanks.

Makes sense that way. It is kinda odd how some things look great, and others are just... eh.

Re: UO High-Res - what could have been?

I know using a certain third party app, you can edit/replace/add art/animation/sound etc to the client.

Creating replacement static items would be dead easy, but actuall animation would probably be alot harder, as it's frame by frame drawings
And there's tons of frames for even the smallest of things.

I know on some player run shards, they've gone in and replaced some existing items like weapons/shields and it looks real nice
(Saw screenshots somewhere on stratics once)

Yeah, I saw those too Adam. Think someone put on Demon Bone armor, and their Avatar looked like a demon (no, not the demons in game, someone re-drew the entire thing and it looked awesome).

If you had the time/inclination/software you could build a skeletal animation loop in a 3d program, attach that to a 3d new model to create the animations (since most bipedal things walk in a similar manner - same for quadrapeds), set up your cameras to get the perspectives right for each angle and then export each frame in the loop into Photoshop for final retouching...

... hmm and of course there's all the clothing permutations ...

oki, it would be a LITTLE easier, but it's still a pretty massive jobby =|

Re: UO High-Res - what could have been?

Here are some more tidbits I've been doing :-). I even came up with a name for the client: "Ultima Online Remastered" Hehehe.

Re: UO High-Res - what could have been?

Adri: Thanks, yes I'm sure they must have seen the thread by now. I wonder what their reaction might have been. They haven't said a word so far.

Cheesplant: Here here. It's a very dramatic thing to completely change how the graphics are looking. Improving the old and making them scalable? Fine. Completely changing them? Bad. And I agree that it's unlikely we'll be seeing much change to the graphics since the majority have already been done. I'm sure that when they made the decision to go with that style, it was after much deep thought and careful consideration. Too late to change it now.

Valas: Yes the difference in graphic quality is quite blatant. If they can get everthing to look up to par with the best of the graphics, then maybe there is hope.

bendahvo: Thank ye kindly!

Snowy: I too feel actually guilty for not being more supportive of their massive hard work. I mean I truly appreciate the effort they've put into trying to make us happy. But at the same time I am saddened that they weren't truly listening to what -we- wanted out of the graphics, instead made what -they- thought would be cool. But it's the world we live and work in (virtually), they just make it. Well I guess some play, but I have to wonder if they are as devoted to spending the time and effort we do in the game - thus cannot understand our perspective, our passion for how we need our world to feel. As yourself, I've tried to give both the old 3d client as well as the UOKR client a fair chance several times. But the 3D just doesn't do it for me.

Re: UO High-Res - what could have been?

I doubt they'll ever comment on it, to be honest.
Wish I knew why

It's obvious adding to, or replacing art in the client, is easy, as I said before, Free shards do it.

Have you ever asked them directly Saphireena?
