Hi folks,

I have returned back to UO for a trial period, i used to play during the renaissance period before all the new expsansions were introduced. I have reactivated my old acount to see how the old UO world still compares to my old memories. My account is on the Europa shard, and im a UK based player. Ill list my questions / queries below for ease of answers.

1) Do you need ALL of the expsansions pack released for UO or is there a bare minimum you can get by with?

2) Is ICQ still the most popular game chat messenger or can you use MSN?

3) Are there any newbie guids that actively recruit on Europa? (as i havent got a scooby as to what im doing atm )

4) What are the essential websites for information / researching UO classes etc and learning swifter ways to raise your skills ?

5) What is the average *active* current player population on Europa ?

6) Is the game now money and item driven as i have read about ?

Im sure i have more questions but for the sake of the length of this thread ill hold off.

The UO of old still fills my mind with fond memories, and i do understand that the game has changed ALOT since my old time. However, no matter how many MMORPg's ive played UO always had the edge for me interms of gameplay.

To make my mind up wether to purchase ML or any of the other exspansions, i think i need to be shown the ropes again.

Only if you want to be able to use everything in game (skills/items). If you want to get a feel for anything else that has changed since then (gameplay, new areas) you would have to upgrade.

As far as I know, yes. Nobody ever lists anything other than their ICQ # (maybe an e-mail here or there, but really, no other chat is so widely used)

That's really all dependant on how you enjoy the game, you can look at it that way IF you care for it that way. Some people play the game to get new items and sell them, others play the game to get new items (even if they must purchase with real $$$) and use them, and others play the game for the game itself (doesn't mean you can't do one, the other, or all 3).

What I'm trying to get at is, if you just want to play for what the game has to offer, you can.

Good idea, get back in Sosaria and get a feel for it before investing any further, you won't have everything accessable, but if you enjoy what you have without upgrading, it only gets better (IMO) with more content.

Some one will correct me if i am wrong,but I am almost sure if you buy the last expansion [AOS] you will have all you need.

Apart from you will need to to purchase Mondains Legacy if you want access to new tiles,dungeons and quests.

Yes ,though a lot of people use other programmes too, alongside ICQ ie,Msn, Skype,Ventrilo.

I dont know of any guilds that only take new players,but a LOT of guilds will take a new player and help them get started with skills,houses,etc.
There are two official fan sites ,this being the best of them,and also several UO sites ie Stratics,UO.com
I will post some links at the end of this post for you to link too .

It depends very much on your playstyle and what/who your character 'is'.
Some areas /guilds are more active than others.

There are a heck of a lot of players out their in it purely for the scams/dupes etc.

HOWEVER the issue is being dealt with by the team, and if you go to Punkbuster you will see one of the plans.

Recently around 180 accounts were banned and 5 billon in gold removed from the game.
That imo was quite a start to dealing with the issues.
Yes I began playing a little pre Aos,in the game,and whilst i have disliked all the expansions but ML I am still an avid player,
UO Is the only game I have or will probably play.

Could anyone explain what these totems are i see in peeps paperdoll and how are they obtained?.

Also is there a way to copy your key setup to each character on the account, negating having to manually do it for each character?

I'm assuming you mean the items in the top right of paperdolls. Those are talismans, most have properties that aid with certain monsters or crafting abilities.

Some basics:

The boosts to crafting only effect your % chance to create an item, not enhancing. This would be good for gaining because you can create more items at a harder level to get better gains.

Boosts to fighting monsters are either 100% to certain types (slayers) and effect damage output, depending on what is says it could effect either damage output or damage taken for specific monsters.

Also talismans have special abilities, an example:

Talisman of Clean Bandage Summoning - this will give you 10 bandages in your backpack when double clicked.

I am also a returning player. I quit bout 7 yrs ago when they gave stat loss to dread lords. b4 that, this game was the best pvp game to date imo.
i tried playing on chesapeake but the server seems completly empty,
so i tried out atlantic and it seems alot better, but i still had probs finding ppl in fel. do people still hunt in old pvp dungeons? i heard all the new expansion lands are non-pvp. is there a shard with good 1v1 pvp action? (i know ganks will happen, just don't want a shard where all there is is mass pvp)

I know what you mean about is being a bit empty out there.. im not sure as to the pvp setup for the new exspansions sets. Im hoping there will still be some kind of PVP core on Europa.

Shame you not on the Europa shard we could have met up, im finding it hard to find any sort of community on trammel atm. But still its early days i suppose, ive not been back for long.
