Re: unacceptable character names...

You're going to have to change that name too. If you're really set on making a vaguely offensive name, just stick with inuendo.

edit: atleast this way only the smart people will get what you're saying.. and from most of my experience in UO, you won't be finding many, so no one will be offended. UOforums community excluded, of course

Re: unacceptable character names...

It was a joke about "womenareproperty". Well when I got on they gave me the name "Hugh" instead of letting me pick a name of my own. Wrong of them but they need the xtra money and make me buy the name change token. I would assume that "Porkbelly" would not be offensive.

And yes compared to the stratics board, this is much smarter.

Re: unacceptable character names...

I still find the names they find to be "unacceptable" to be pretty funny. Apparently I can't name one of my pets Tasslehoff (of Dragonlance fame) because it contains the word '@ss'.

A friend and I were playing around with our pets one night, and were trying out names, and discovered that while you can name a pet Vagina, you can't name one Penis. Highly unfair. *giggles*

Re: unacceptable character names...

I think it would be nice if uo added an offensive name filter. That would clear up any issues.

So many small fixes...

Re: unacceptable character names...

I think a lot of you are forgetting one very large and significant point. UO can be played by any race and nationality. This said UO must comply with the laws in every country throughout the world. Which I think you'll find is something that is very hard to do. Take Islamic countries for instance, for a woman to say "men are pigs" would get her a jail sentence.

So don't start saying the 3rd ammendment and all that, because it simply doesn't apply. And you don't have the 3rd ammendment in UO, it doesn't exist. Freedom of speech is not allowed within UO, this is what helps keep the integrity of UO.

So for everyone out there UO IS NOT SOLELY PLAYED BY THE US of A. GET THAT INTO YOUR HEADS AND YOU SHOULD BE FINE.

Re: unacceptable character names...

Malepig,

Tell them that "men are pigs" is a German song. Was quite a big hit a couple years ago, and was performed by "Die Ärzte" (in German the name of the song is "Männer sind Schweine"). Itīs a band of three guys, who sing about how men are pigs.
Quite fun and a huge hit with men and women in german speaking parts of Europe. (I can post the song text for you if it helps (or makes you laugh), just have to ask and Iīll also translate it then )

So feel free to take that if they donīt like the joke part.

And I donīt find it offensive, I mean, I donīt understand why people have names like that for their characters, but it bothers me a lot less than "cr**k w**re" or tasteless jokes, like a tailor called "child labor" or something like that.

EDIT: Oh, almost forgot, probably I should then also page on "Ivana Humpalot". Oh, oh, and on all those patriots from the US, since any German being even just a tad patriotic (during the soccer world cup) was called a Nazi... oh, and thank you again to the player that called me a m*therf**ker because I didnīt quite realise weīre all jew-haters because we put up the German flag *slaps head* I should have noticed that weīre spreading propaganda with that.... (whoever doesnīt see the irony in the last sentence(s): sorry for not making it clear enough).
*rolls eyes*
People need to calm down and realise that the world does move on, and that we donīt sue everyone that offends us in real life either (the US of A is a big exception when it comes to sueing others... when I lived there and there was a incident with a CVS worker, the first question from the boss was "Are you planning on sueing us?" )

The equivalent calenders for men are for the "boys are stupid" non-existant, and for the Retro Spoof one about how awesome alcohol is. The only thing I find offensive about these kinds of jokes isn't that women can call men pigs, its indeed that men can't call women bitches in the same manner.

But then its all part of that big "Equality! Except when we don't want it!" thing alot of women appreciate and use in western society.
lol but that depends on the chick some will go for all equal but like you said some are all about it until they can use it to their advantage
