Question To Junk or not to Junk

Your junk is probably my treasure, clogging up my house

How do you decide what to keep or trash? A friend of mine once said he wouldn't pick up a piece of armor unless it had a min of 30pts combined resists. Is this still normal or would you go even higher?

How about Rings & Bracelets? What is the min you look for in one etc?

Re: To Junk or not to Junk

Hi.

Well, I definitely keep stuff for which the unenhanced total resists add up to 45 or better. And then I try to enhance them (if it has okay mods and is medable I enhance 40 or better).

Having a few secures of decent armor, even if I don't need it, comes in handy when friends die and lose all their gear (then I can help make emergency sets) or for stocking newbie starter kits.

On newbie starter kits, however, it's important to keep the strength requirement on everything as low as possible (preferably 25 or less, but definitely not over 40).

As for jewelry, stuff too good to throw away I also keep for newbie starter kits if I don't want it for myself.

If necessary, decide how many secures you can keep to "junk" armor that you can't get yourself to throw away, and let that be your cap. If you run out of room in those secures, take the bottom end stuff and leave it in haven for newbies and let your "junk" stuff get better and better as you weed out low end stuff and keep the best of the keepers

Re: To Junk or not to Junk

With bracelets & Rings though - do you only keep if it has 3+mods on it? or a min resist? To be honest i've gotten so much junk at the Hartwood quest and I see all these numbers *eyes twitches* I think I hit gold! But I don't even know if their worth keeping

Re: To Junk or not to Junk

Well, no, i don't really have a rule on jewelry.

But what I do have is two secures of jewelry I keep for my friends or my 24 characters in case I think they or I will need them (I get requests sometimes asking if I have something, and then I look).

And I have half a secure of jewelry that I keep for my starter kits I hand out. Since I give somewhere between 2 and 8 starter kits a week most weeks, that means the newbie jewelry runs out fairly quickly, and half a secure is the most I can sustain anyway.

Re: To Junk or not to Junk

for jewelry, I only keep it if it has 1/2, 1/3, or 0/3 w/10+lrc, 10+hci/dci, 18+di, or +5dex as long as it has either 10+hci or dci AND DI.

I am VERY strict on what I keep.

As far as armor, I only keep what I make. I have probably burned about 10 barbed kits.

Re: To Junk or not to Junk

I always smelt armor that is below 30. I will enhance the item, and identify if the enhanced item is worth keeping if it didn't get destroyed. At that point, it would be your own discretion. As for rings, I am strict and don't keep anything that thatdudenamedbo mentioned and jewelry with skill increases of +10 or more on them.

Jewels are something of a mystery, you need to look if the combination of skills is any good for any viable templates. Like a brace with necro and animal lore on it, goes in the bin. I have a wide variety of jewels, a lot of DI SDI LRC Taming HCI DCI mainly for melee n taming. I have very few magery jewels. But its important to only keep what is needed. WHy keep something that'll never get used. 10+ is a little OTT, I had this brace with +8 Stealth HCI and DI on it, perfect for my stealth archer. Urm, silly me lost it.

Re: To Junk or not to Junk

Well, there are exceptions, but for the most part it does need to be 10+ or I would run out of space in the house because of all the jewelery I do get.

Re: To Junk or not to Junk

Yah I am pretty tight on storage space. I have a 16x15 or 15x16(whatever a tower becomes when you level it to a foundation, I hate towers) about 3 or 4 screens north of fel yew gate. I have atleast 30% of my storage dedicated to restock items for my guild. (regs, bandages, petals, bolas, pots, fish steaks, bout 20 open accessed kegs, various weaps). So with this being a space issue, I dont keep much other than what I already had with me when I moved from my 18x18. I dont hunt, therefore I dont steadily get new stuff. I keep my stuff I need, plus whatever I've gotten from my barbed kits, and a few other random things.

Re: To Junk or not to Junk

I used to run a vendor, and would only keep the stuff that was * of hardening and * of power or better, and any silver items regardless of other mods. With the new way of describing armor and weapons, I had to figure out a different way of keeping items.

As it is, I have 3 secures partially filled with items, and a couple bags of the 'junk' locked down near the forge ready for smelt/cutting. If I do ever get back into doing chests again I will relook at how things are kept. I don't supply a guild and most of my toons are fairly well geared as it is. So I can afford to be a little more fussy with what I keep or toss.
