This made me laugh...

Well, while listening to some music I was a little board and decided to look at stratics. Now I haven't been to stratics in ages and I remembered the "new" pvp changes UO is supposedly going under so I read about 3-4 PvP entries mostly written by Wilki. I can't believe what I read. So many confessions about how UO should of never gone in this direction and that (AoS and other expansions). About how broken the PvM and PvP system is. How resist and items are ruining the game. How the game is boring. How the game MUST take a change for longterm longevity. I, and a lot of others, was preaching this stuff years ago! And now they pull this? I don't know what else to think other than they were milking for cash. I feel sorry for the people who acually play the game and molded their characters to the current system then EA pulls another fast one. They screwed the old schoolers and now they want to screw the "newer" people? Time to change templates again?!?! lol, I remember those days. And Wilki says for people not to quit. Piss poor from EA.

What do you guys think?

Re: This made me laugh...

I don't think it would be better to leave broken systems as is just to please those who've spent millions to build up optimized suits or to gimp themselves out for PvP of today. Stagnation leads to boredom, sure some are angry that they aren't owning everything for a while until they adapt to new systems but that's just being selfish. Isn't it more important that the game as a whole works and is challenging and fun than your personal status of being more l33t than your neighbor? (note, your in the general sense).

Personally I usually find it fun to work with new systems, it gives me something new to do. Try out all the old places where I have no reason to go to now, testing and figuring out what my characters can and can't accomplish. It may be disappointing to find out I can't waste anything and anyone without a care anymore, but more challenge makes me log in more often.

I'd give the devs the benefit of the doubt here, it's not necessarily "milking" UO to not initiate a total overhaul of the system sooner. There's always time and budget restraints and staff changes that affect what gets done. Surely a total revamp would be the last resort when you're sure it's all gone to hell, first you'd like to believe you can fix it with tweaking, caps etc. People don't tend to react well to massive changes, just look at the folks crying out bloody murder on Stratics before even testing the changes. The same people who've been crying for the system to be fixed all along... can never please some.

Agreed.

To the OP, when anything (i.e. companies, games, sports) takes it's players/fans/customers/employees/etc. into consideration as to which direction it's going there will always be those that agree and disagree, it just so happens in the first move (AoS) you were disagreeing with them, and to you they flip-flopped, but maybe they were pushed in that direction by management/player feedback (btw a huge mistake)/a bad magic 8-ball answer, so no one will know reasons why decisions were made, and even if Mr. EA man came out and said "We decided on the changes for AoS and there after because I thought it would bring over the market from WoW, EQ, etc." There will be people that will question the statement. So, what happend already happend, you've dropped LJ 'cause the jackers got jacked, then had to pick it back up to get special woods, you dropped your (insert melee skill here) to pick up a bow, and now bows are weaker/slower so you'll pick up your (insert melee weapon here) OR quit UO................ and give me your stuff!! Only to play WoW, Guildwars, EQ, Xbox360, and in a week get bored of them all and come back to UO asking for your stuff back that I lost due to the insurance bug.

rofl Dip!

I could live with the changes and all I think, if they could take a little more time to make sure all the bugs are out of something before it is released. Or, since I know that would be just about impossible until you have hundreds of people playing it at the same time, if they could at least anticipate some of the bugs and have some idea how to fix them. I do not see the sense in releasing new versions of a game when you don't have all the major bugs out of the old ones.

Re: This made me laugh...

True, bugs will be bugs though, and there's no avoiding them 100%, sorry, it is possible in a perfect world only. But I do agree it would be nice if they could anticipate some, yes, it would be nice.

But things that CAN be seen and avoided are horrible advantages like crits/armor ignore were, like deathstrike was, etc. etc. Yes, these can be avoided completely by looking at the effects of what they have done.

Common sense, something has the capability to bypass all/most armor, this should <---KEY WORD *SHOULD* ring bells in your head, have voices in your head screaming, make that *ding* sound southwest airlines has to inform you of low-fares, SOMETHING should go off telling you to A. look at what weapon/skill combo with the capability (the one bypassing armor, stay with me, you can buy your plane ticket in a second) and B. compensate in some way to make sure that it does not grossly do to a player or monster what shouldn't be done, like 1 hit kill. So what could <---ANOTHER KEY WORD *COULD* have been done to avoid that whole fiasco, they could have either made it so that it would bypass armor but send 50% of your damage through, or hit the intended targets lowest resist (if you run in Fel with 70,70,0,70,70 you should be punished). This would <--- yeah, *WOULD* make crits and armor ignore's still effective, but far less dramatic.

Re: This made me laugh...

i think they made uo way too easy so that new players can have strong char's really fast and dont feel like the game is too hard and stop playing but then once they play these strong char's for so long the game becomes too boring so they quit playing anyways... seems like a lose lose situation. Also by making the game easy to become strong you have the people that aren't new to uo and use that to become very rich, thats y ebay gold went from around 12 bucks a mill to 5 bucks.... but thats a whole other topic. (btw i dont ebay i just like to look)

I think we read two totally different stratics.....I didn't read anything like that on Stratics, what I DID read was:
They understand the combat system is broken when relaying totally on Items.
They want to fix this, so it is more like the old UO, BUT not like the old UO.

I did NOT read from the Devs:
This game is boring.
How resist and items are ruining the game.
And Wilki telling people to not quit.
How UO Should have NEVER gone in this direction.

There is a big difference. Also this is almost a completely new dev team than it was when AoS came out. I think the only ones that were around with AoS' release were MrTact and Niobie....*still thinking* Also Lady Lu, but we haven't heard too much from her lately.

So I do feel bad for anyone who doesn't play this game anymore, because they are missing out on a great experiance, even if there are bugs and a "broken" combat system.

LLAMA!
