Re: Is there a story line?

Is there a list of quests somewhere? I would like to try one or two to get started rather than wander around aimlessly.
Thanks

Let's not discount wandering around aimlessly, though...it's fun, cheap, and you never know where you'll end up!

If I want to be a necro/chiv/bushido/stealther, I can. If I want to be a mage/fencer/blacksmith, I can be that too. I can design my own house, I can hunt monsters, I can bake cakes. I've played Wow and SWG, and though they do occasionally grab my attention for a month or two, nothing has stood the test of time that Ultima has, bringing me back over and over for years.
Well said. nothing else has ever grabbed my attention the way UO has.

Re: Is there a story line?

On the original topic of the thread...
I find that I much prefer freedom, to being railroaded through a plotline.
Although I loved playing the campaigns, and player created modules in Neverwinter Nights, I much preferred the freedom to wander that existed in Morrowind.
I consider UO to be more like Morrowind than NWN.
Regardless of my responsibilities, I can still wander off and do something else.

To the OP.
If you're looking for ongoing story, and something to give meaning to playing the game, I'd recommend joining something like the RP war ring on Europa.
As someone said earlier "You make the adventure!"
Rather than seeing it as an excuse, see it as an oppurtunity. In UO, you can interact with others, and make your own stories.
Admittedly, you can't be the world-saving hero. But there's room enough in the world for "normal" [fantasy] people.

Re: Is there a story line?

Role Playing is the way to go. It's easy to role play, stay in character, know what to say. when I got involved in rp all I did was go to a famous rp guildhouse, waited for the gm to talk with me, and my character stated he found a body (skeleton countainer) in the woods. When the gm looked on the body (container) he found a book I myself wrote but told him had found about some strange new quest thing that was more like an idea yet he went along with. This was so long ago I dont quite remember everything but it was around the time of the plants coming out and everyone was after the white seeds. Well as it goes the player run quest for "The seed of the great lakes tree" was started. It was small and meager and lasted about a month but was real fun. Most of the rpers I knew on great lakes are gone but Im looking!

To sum things up, do what you want in uo. If you want exciting battles and wars join a player vs player guild. Pvp guilds can be loads of fun especially if they role play. If your more for Pvm and dont wanna role play thats kewl too. There is a whole lot of pvm guilds out there where tons of rich tycoon like players farm all the rare items and sell them for outrages prices. There are people that do no fighting at all! Merchants and crafters spend all their uo time working in the economy. So whatever you are looking for go find it! You wont be disappointed.
