![]() | Re: The Mother of all Rants. [you have been warned] I can safely say Deraj that these are the exact same reasons I rarely log into the UO world these days. I would happily pay more to play an "old-school" server rather than put up with all the crap they're throwing at us. About 6-8 weeks ago, I quit logging in on a daily basis. The whole reason of the game has gone almost completely down the drain. Peerlesses are just a gateway to easy-to-obtain "uber lewtz." Elves are just an overpowered breed of character class. The crafting system is souly run by dedicated bod accounts, bod runners *mostly scripters* and the crafting system its self is poorly implemented. Actually the only point I would argue against is the implementation of landmasses. You argue that samurai/ninja don't fit into the universe of uo. Yeah I guess I'd agree to a degree but I actually liked the idea. Its just as you say though, the expansion had potential but was poorly implemented. If I had things my way, I would do away with facets completely. Instead, implement all landmasses into one large facet where as some parts of the world would be PvP based, and the others would have the tram ruleset. This creates in my opinion, a more adventurous feeling where the moongates would be limited to only certain areas and players would be more or less required to walk/boat to destinations and mark runes on their own. But instead of implementing a wide range of skills and new elite spells etc.. Why not just implement the art? Why is it that with every expansion that involves a new class or race (as proven in the past), a new skill/spell group must follow it? Or at least they could do a better job at balancing the groups before implementing them. Why not just implement the armor, building artwork that represents those classes etc? this would make it a RP experience expansion. This way if people want to dress up like a samurai or a ninja or a paladin and necromancer; by all means they can. This eliminates the overbalance issues of new skills. Im all in favor of game expansion such as landmasses, character/game art. Its just all the implementations that follow with them are poorly implemented which is why the game is so corrupt today. Dont get me wrong I'm not completely disrespecting the game because I still think its the best mmo around. I just think if things were done differently, it would still be the same addicting game as it was years ago. |

![]() | Re: The Mother of all Rants. [you have been warned] In order for UO to remain competative in the market, it must, from time to time, upgrade. The problem i see with UO is the number of updates that occur and their frequency of occurance. Might have been better had they chosen to finish UO 2 and allow players to transfer. It was a much better engine utilizing current graphics technology. You can upgrade old technology only so much before you slam into an inpenitratable wall. ![]() ![]() Some things are best left alone. Last edited by Hellsbane; 1st June 2007 at 12:38 PM.. |

![]() | Re: The Mother of all Rants. [you have been warned] I used to RP casually back when I played with the Entreri guild on Pacific. I just can't RP anymore. Back then the game supported the RP if you know what I mean. With todays UO I just can't do it anymore. It's like nothing means nothing anymore and it just takes too much effort. Before it almost just flowed and was very enjoyable. Last edited by Lensky Entreri; 1st June 2007 at 12:36 PM.. |

![]() | Re: The Mother of all Rants. [you have been warned] Let me just sum it up like this: the game got incredibly complicated. Neon weapons everywhere, crazy houses, special moves, artifacts, weapon stats, armour resists, insurance etc. Pre AoS all I needed was my skills and some misc equipment. I was proud to be a GM mage and I could walk around in my mage robe (or whatever) and roleplay my character easily and be effective in the actual game. Do you see what I am getting at? The generic houses were amazing. Especially when people decorated them nicely. Last time I logged in I remember seeing lots of massive monstrosities with all sorts of stuff on them. It just doesn't add up. I still think the 2D graphics are perfect for UO. UO was a world that flowed together nicely. Sure at the time there was neon hair and ethy mounts but those were just nice small additions. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: The Mother of all Rants. [you have been warned] I know exactly what you mean, Lensky, and I have come to see it in this light: when you make a conscious effort to remain in character, you are roleplaying with the game; immersion is what happens when the game roleplays back. This game has lost a great deal of immersion, and when you cannot immerse yourself into the virtual world, it becomes far more difficult to actually be a part of it. There was a time before I really understood what roleplaying meant; before I was "corrupted", so to speak, by the concepts of IC and OOC. That was in the beginning, when I unknowingly experienced immersion when I joined UO:R. Those are the days I wish I could have back. ![]() Still we loom in the mists as the ages roll away, And we say of our folk, "they are here!" On Europa Community however,we use Rules of engagement,[ RoE] where we do not allow lots of items to be used.We only interact using GM made armor and weapons. There are other limits also in place to try balance everything. We do try keep things as pre Aos as possible in that respect, though things do creep in a little more every year it seems,as members demand to be able to use certain things. What shard did you play on Lensky ? @ Deraj Quote:

![]() | Re: The Mother of all Rants. [you have been warned] I admire your passion for roleplaying but setting limits on stuff just isn't my kind of thing. Heh, I tried being an Orc once after AOS. It didn't work out for me ![]() I played Pacific. Last edited by Lensky Entreri; 1st June 2007 at 07:40 PM.. |
