Yea its actually easier. Remember these are low detail 2D sprites, you can defend them all you want. The fact is, its not as much work as they would like you to believe.

why in the heck is this "update" taking so much time and effort to release?

I know for some this may seem like a daunting task, lets all keep in mind that companies like EA release "NEW" games faster than this...

As a Game Devloper - i have to tell ya - Its actually much more difficult to modify, update and integrate an existing game with 9 years of live content and 10-11 years of actual code while distrubing the classic version as little as possible, than to simply make some new game from scratch.

If something doesn't work out in a new game, you simply cut it and nobody's the wiser - but with an upgrade everyone is aware of every feature and aspect of how they think things should be.

Restoration Vs some new title - Its sorta like the differences between restoring a classic mansion with history and gameplay in every corner you must preserve, to say throwing up a row of cheap track housing in suberbia as fast as you can.

Anyway - you get the idea

*sigh*

Thanks CatHat.

Don't forget to add in that everything done now takes TWICE the amount of effort/time/resources/Taco Bell//man-hours/Mountain Dew because the 2d client will still be supported for now.

Cathat.

Thanks for the post Cathat, not trying to completely belittle the project. I guess my point is, if preservation was truly the goal, why even make this update? So many areas of Britannia and the other facets have been changed soooo much in the past few weeks. Like i said if preserving the old UO was your most important mandate, then you all failed miserably at your task.

HOWEVER!

I am still very impressed with what I have seen graphically from the new client, and for the most part am very excited to try it, maybe even a little inpatient.

Lets just get it out before the summer ok guys? ;)
