Ok Adrianna, so how is it that the Cat In The Hat(My Necro Mage Spellweaver) only does 7 damage to peerless when their HP is totally redlined(like no blue on the bar). This is without a focus, I have tried it with a level 1 focus(just focused by myself and I got the same result).
So am I missing something or is Cat just all messed up?

Hmmm... I honestly can't say what's wrong, though using no focus at all will make WoD really rubbish since even with a level 1 focus you have to have the target down to like 5% of hit points...

I usually only get a level 1 focus myself, hardly ever find others to work with... and WoD works just fine for me once the target is down enough. Doesn't need to be redlined, just down to a really slim sliver of blue on the bar. Should do around 300 damage without much any SDI. If it's not happening for you, I really can't say what's wrong, sorry.

WoD works against everything, any monster. The only deciding factor is the percentage of hit points the target has left, depending on how high a focus you have. I usually do the killing blow to Miasma with WoD. So I'd say yes, no reason why it wouldn't work against champs - haven't tried it personally though.

As for damage, can't say really. By default WoD seems to do something around 300 damage, but SDI augments this greatly since SDI is also a percentage. Just think about it, 300 default damage, add in like 30% SDI and you'll be doing 390 damage instead.

Well does WoD do 300 damage vs Miasma?

I actually heard that WoD when ML Beta first came out could do upwards of 1000-1200 damage. Any truth to that? Was suppose to stack with EoO and Perfection and Honor and stuff.

The most I've hit Miasma for was 125, guessing that since I normally don't have a focus at all that damage is the "max" I can hit for because the small % before death I can hit it with.

I would almost say it's safe to assume that you can hit anything for max damage (300 as Adrianna assumes w/o SDI) as long as it has enough max HP.

basically (damage = (5% * lvl of focus) * targets max HP) if lower than 300

DiP is probably correct. No I can't hit Miasma for 300 damage because by the time it's down to 5%, it doesn't have that much HP. The damage you see registered only shows how many HP you actually took off, not how many you COULD have taken off... so if the target has 70 HP left, WoD does 70 and not 300.

300 is just an approximate figure I threw out there since that's the sort of damage I've been doing on the few peerless bosses I've used it on. WoD does chaos damage though, so the final amount varies based on the target's resists as well. And I suppose the spell itself has a range as most spells do, so the damage won't be consistent. Could say something like 290-320 would be realistic.

Yeah, maybe next peerless I'm on I'll test without a focus and no SDI to see base damage.

But for the chaos damage... it is only taken in effect when attacking a target that is not within the desired HP range (5% * lvl of focus).

It should say chaos, not energy.

But "This spell can possibly slay any one creature that is under 5-30% of its maximum health" shows it is going to basically ignore all armor and do max damage.

Ah, right. That makes perfect sense.

So when doing the actual major damage, WoD does direct damage and not chaos damage.

The hype about slaying a creature instantly turned out to be a big ol' hoax though... yeah it does big damage but it hardly kills much anything with a single cast. Stuff that has less than 20 times 300 hit points (300 being 5%, 20 times 5% = 100%) will die within the window of having less than 5% HP left before you can get word of death casted, and stuff with more hit points won't die instantly from a single cast anyway.
