Soul Stones For Pets ?
Thread :- It Would Be Nice To Have Soul Stones For Pets!
on UO U.Hall Comment So we don't have to train them over and over again once we get new pets. Not overpowering in any sense. I would even accept 10% loss in skill points during transfer. The pet soul stones can be one of the rewards for Zoo Donations - it benefits all players. ############################ The question is... why? I mean, why would you want to transfer a dragon's gmed anatomy, wrestling and tactics to a dog? ############################ My God what had UO become. *Shake heads* ############################ UO has become more player friendly without sacrifcing the integrity and should continueto do so. I haven't seen any complains of soul stones for players so tell me what's wrong giving pet soul stones? If you don't have a tamer, you won't know how long it will take to get the top reward for zoo donation. ############################ I repeat my previous question: from what will you transfer skills and to what? I mean, first you would have to train that White Wyrm up for example, but then what would you give it to? ############################ A straight answer, you can transfer same skills from one pet (dragon) to another(dog). The function of soul stone is to let tamers retire their old pets and transfer the skill points to new pets without having to re-train them. When a lot of us get our first pets, they may not be ideal in stats/resists, or they may not be the right color we want. Later when we get more ideal ones, our old pets already have high skills. If their stats/resists/color are not popular, it doesn't worth selling them because we have put a lot of time in them. A lot of us just left them in stable and take the space. Someone in this thread also mentioned about selling the soul stones with pet skills. It may be a bit too much although I really don't see anything wrong with it. In fact, since the pets are transferrable, selling pet skills directly/indirectly won't be aviodable. Other than the convinience and more efficient stable space, the soul stone can also reduce the heavy spawn farming when a new pet comes out - ppl don't have to "screen" the spawn to get their perfect pet so we don't have to wait there forever. ########################## The only reason I could see it making sense to add soulstones to pets would be if you could take a pet up to the max cap for that type of pet by xfering the skill from another pet of that type. For example, if you tamed a hiryu with sweet resists and stats, but bad wrestling, to be able to xfer 108 wrestling to it. I would love to have an item that let you do this. Granted, an item like that would be fairly powerful because it would let players tame pets without worrying about skill caps, and still end up with max skill pets, so I think it would be a good candidate for a money sink system. If it cost you 1 mil to xfer your max poisoning from a normal rune beetle to a max stat rune beetle, I think that would be wonderfully balanced. Heck, I think it would even make sense to let you xfer resists too. So basically, you could assemble a max stat/resist/skill pet, but it would cost you several million to do. The pet would really not give you a return on that investment (which helps reduce money supply in the UO economy), but you'd be able to have a better pet than you would likely have just by farming a really strong one. Also, a system like this would let people with "nostalgia pets" buff up their existing pets so they can have powerful pets without wasting stable slots. Also, it would let people who have rare color pets make those pets strong enough to hunt effectively. #########################

Re: Soul Stones For Pets ?
why not instead of having advanced char tokens have advanced pet tokens?!? along those same lines. why not put the ea team's energy/time towards something that benefits the whole uo community (or atleast a biger community)? ie: fix bugs/exploits

Re: Soul Stones For Pets ?
I'm not saying I want it, my tamer comes out about once a month, but I wouldn't care if they did do it. Granted, someone would fuss about it just for the sake of fussing, I couldn't see people actually having a "legitimate" argument for it. This game has always had bugs and exploits in it and always will. Does that mean people can't have or don't want new little trinkets until they are fixed? Just think of all the fussing that would be heard if EA said "no X-mas gifts this year, because we are to busy."

Re: Soul Stones For Pets ?
OMG, what the hell is going on here. The whole IDEA behind taming pets is that you take the time to train them. Hell, I love going to the Rotting Corpses spawn and farming deamon bones and gold. Whilst traing my dogs healing. This is a pathetic invention. Your all trying to make UO even more noobified than it is already becoming. UO is meant to be a skillfull game, there is no skill in what you are proposing. Its bad enough people buy gold over Ebay etc, but now this. You've lost the plot. UO is all about training, thats the whole ethos behind the game, and what, in some respects has made it soooo sucessful. It takes a 3 weeks to 3x GM a dog, and its time well worth it. Now you want to spoil the game further. Do it the hard way, I'm afraid I hate people that are always looking for the easy option out. And that is exactly what this is. How can you feel satisfied using your pet, when you've put no effort into training it. And the idea about stoning resists, are you trying to make taming an even more overpowered tram skill. Hell, I can solo Lady M as it is, but if this was to happen, I'd be able to solo everything, ALL AT THE SAME TIME. You've find that if you put some effort into training your pet, you'll get a better bond with it.

Re: Soul Stones For Pets ?
If you could soulstone pet stats wouldn't that in effect make pet stable slots double or triple since you can just retame another pet when you want to use it. Also, I would just get to GM w/ an easier animal, stone it and transfer it over. I mean you can GM a lot of stats in a day or so. I can understand the want for it but I agree w/ the others that it's the lazy person's way out of having a pet.

Re: Soul Stones For Pets ?
The only thing it would even be worth it for is non-melee skills. You can GM all the melee skills of any pet in a couple hours off of one Shadow Ele.
How would it handle GM+ skills? Hiryus can have around 107 Wrestle, Rune Beetles can have like 115 Poisoning/Eval... All in all, if they ended up doing it, I wouldnt really care, but its certainly nothing Id ever lobby for. And my Tamer is probably my most played char.. |

Re: Soul Stones For Pets ?
No, no, no... I have a much better idea. Let's just bring over the Test Center commands, "set [skill] [number]" so players and pets can bypass that whole boring part of raising skills and get to the fun part of the game. That way, you'd get rid of all the skill UMing that goes on, and we'd solve all the issues associated with skill gain!
As ridiculous as the above idea sounds, it might not sound so ridiculous in the future, if the game were to go in the direction of "pet soulstones", just as regular soulstones and other things that are normal to us today might have sounded absurd to players a few years ago.

Re: Soul Stones For Pets ?
Deraj has a point. The game changes, but yes we might as well just go to the test shard idea. Because people are so frickin lazy, I'm so annoyed by peoples lazyness. I mean the game is all about training your character to how you want it. And people even find ways around that.
I hate training, but you get a real satisfaction from manually completing your template. Its such a releif when you see the words at the bottom of the screen that say "Inscription has increased to 100.0 (+0.1)" It means that all that hard effort was actually worth it. I'm gonna see those words later, when I get home. I'm sitting at 99.9 and I'll get my GGS. Its cost me 300k or more to get this far. I'm looking forward to it. I mean all the hard work gives you something to look forward to. |
