Something you don't see often

me bitching.
Of all the things in UO past or present that might make a player complain, this one just drives me crazy.

Just got the latest edition of the EA monthly "newsletter", in all these years it has NEVER mentioned Ultima Online. No type of UO promo's featured in it. So what does our new version promote?

DOAC.......

DOAC?!?!?!

I just don't get it.
Wouldn't you want to promote something your investing so much money into??
Wouldn't you want to help boost interest in your game that's coming up on it's 10th anniversary, a mark few other games approach .

that was something i broached a while ago it's like there just peeing in the wind with uo i see no advertistemts anywhere they will never get any new gamers to play if they dont see somethign solid picture wise, games wise, review wise,. it's like they don't give a crap very discouraging and unhearting.

Re: Something you don't see often

I'm not at all surprised, to be honest
UO Is like the red headed step child to EA.
There's alot of things they don't do, or have stopped doing, which irk me

Fansite program cancelled
Official support forum status at Stratics was revoked.
EA/Stratics chat sessions with the devs are no longer done
EM program cancelled
Fan sites can no longer request items in game for big competitions/events.

The fansite program being cancelled really irratated me
Our site, along with a few others worked damn hard to get recognised by EA, and it was just cancelled, without any discussion or anything.
I mean, why is it ok for DAOC and Warhammer online to have a fansite program and/or a fansite graphics kit, but not UO?

But, there seems to be growing unrest about how they're running UO these days, even from those who are normally quiet, or supportive.

thats why i beleive kr and sa are going to be the last ditvch efforts to restore u.o mark my words in 1 year if there fanbase dosen't improve they will pull the plug on uo, as for the cost of kr not much the most expensive cost r the servers and they r already in place graphics big deal vvery cheap to make i would n't be suprised if there cost to bring on kr and sa is less then 1 million dollars

Re: Something you don't see often

When have they ever really supported this game?

Your gone say well Darkscribe just said they have put more money in UO then ever before.

Great! Yes he said that, but think about it for a moment. Lets use a small number so everyone can get an idea. Lets say they were spending $1000 a month on uo to maintain. But now cause of the new investment they get $2000 a month. So they could say we have had a doubling of our investment in uo.

So unless we can actually have real numbers of what they were spending before this supposed increase in funding, it just words said to please the playerbase. Cause by their actions lately it would seem they are cutting back.

Also remember why EA bought Mythic Entertainment. Pure and simple - Warhammer Online. What EA sees as a WOW killer.

Although I have always imgained a conversation between EA and Mythic went something like this.

We thank EA for this opportunity to free up our creative side and help us move forward with development/publishing of Warhammer Online and continuing our award winnning game Dark Age of Camelot.

We here at Mythic Entertainment are confident we can provide great gaming excit...What? we have to run UO now? *Looks toward the boatload of cash that EA just delivered to the Mythic Headquarters* Hey! its great to be here with all you UO players, just wait till you see what we have in store for you.

Something like that I expect. I would just like to ask, since a trial version of DAoC was in my 9th anniversary edition. Did EAMythic actually follow through and put a UO trail version in all the new editions of DAoC like they said? Just asking?

EA has never really backed this game. The last two page ad I remember was for AoS. Why everyone here expects improvements is beyond me. I just want to play the game, I have no expectations anymore from this company. New blood or not.

gives Se'an a *cookie hug* and frowns with him!

Makes no sense at all what they are doing ...

and here the link to Baldguy post on UO UHall Stratics ... wow Jeremy responded too!

For the folks that can't get stratics to load here is Jeremy's response ...

Quote:
Taking your concerns in order:

NO "returnee" offers for 9th anniversary or KR announced - we had a "welcome back" event when 9th anniversary shipped - we have not announced anything for KR yet, but that doesn't mean we're not doing anything for it.

Subscriptions (unofficial) decline below 100k - Um... yeah - unofficially. [wink]

Fansite program cancelled - We no longer have an "official" fansite program and link list, that is correct. The new process is here.
Official support forum status at Stratics was revoked. - This goes along with the "no 'official' fansites" change.

No updates on UO.com for publish/ development since February. - Fixed, heh. Ironically I just spent an hour catching that up, before you posted.

EA/Stratics chat sessions with the devs are no longer done - I have gotten no inquiries from Stratics about chats since I took over. *shrug*

EM program cancelled - yup.

Fan sites can no longer request items in game for big competitions/events. - Custom in-game items, no - we do provide prizes when asked nicely, but not custom stuff.

KR beta EXCLUDED from EA newsletter - Which EA newsletter?

UO.com playguide not updated for a TWO YEAR OLD expansion - no excuses there.

UO.Stratics is TWO YEARS out of date - can't respond to that one.

And, yup, we're working on a new client, we have a new web team, we have a new direct feedback system, we're hiring, we have an expansion pack in the works... lots of stuff going on. If you haven't heard much out of us in the last couple weeks, well... see above, re: working on a new client. Everyone's hella busy right now.

(And, apropos of nothing, I figured out some tricks with the BNN, and now stories are categorized, and the lead story in each category has a dropdown pointing you to related stories. Recently updated categories should show up in the right-hand column. See if it makes sense to y'all!)

Re: Something you don't see often

Yah, she was positively loquacious today. 6 or 7 responses so far. Can't wait till Tabby reports ME as news! lol. Good thing we had to remove the Paul B from my login here in case we need plausible deniability.

*shhh* funny part, I had used feed back Saturday to report the lack of updates to the updates and dev parts of uo.com, plus a couple of my other ad libs i through in there.
