So I am reading the Catskills stratics forums to see if there's been anything going on on Cats to maybe post on because to be honest it's been kinda quiet.I find a post from an old player thinking about coming back to UO but doesn't want to if tamers are still being hated and flamed everywhere because it sounded like that's why he quit in the first place. (A few years ago the tamer hate was at an all time record high) A few posters reply nicely and then a Stratics moderator posts "all kill = no skill" Not welcome back or hope to see you in game soon or anything like that. Now I must be stupid. What's the point of this? I have seen this same Moderator participate in other bashing posts. Why is he still a moderator? What's the point of making that guy feel that way? GRRRRR! ![]()

Re: So I...
That's pretty harsh. Controlling and healing tames takes more skill than a warrior standing in the middle of a spawn left in war mode. All the warrior has to worry about is that his aids stay on his lastobject so that his lastobject, waitfortarg, targetself, healing macro works. As a tamer it's like being in a party where you are the only one healing, you have to heal your pets, yourself, and make sure to keep the spawn occupied and the non-sticky health bars certainly don't help matters. Not to mention that with control slots, slayers, new skills, paragons, etc. tamers aren't THE PvM class anymore. And with the ease of creating warriors, there really is no reason for anyone to create a tamer from an economic stand point. And as for PvP, it is pretty widely known that a tamer does not fare well. So if a tamer were to make in-roads in the PvP community I would say that that required some skill. Tamers are, however, extremely fun to play once you get high enough to control some of the more powerful and unique creatures. I enjoy playing all classes and they all require a certain amount of skill. I do not enjoy limiting my variety in UO to one class.

Re: So I...
Ugh...I would throw that moderator right out the door. They sure don't watch for that kind of stuff over there.
Now, for a long time, I thought having a tamer would be awesome. I didn't hate them, but I thought that it would be easier to let my dragon kill things then me. After I got my advanced character I learned that taming is damn hard. I can't keep my pets alive for the live of me. I just can't seem to find the right groove to play that class hehe Sure a WW is powerful and helps you kill a lot faster...but it's not easy keeping him alive and happy all the time. Anyway..some of those moderators over there need to be fired. Some of the shard ones specifically...I've seen that from a few of them as well..it's just not right.

Re: So I...
I've seen that a lot over there. Another reason to stay and post here I guess???

Re: So I...
I think tamers require lots of skill, not only is it one of the hardest skills to gm or get passed gm (hard and boring) you also have to have veterinary and lore in order to control your pet and heal your pet.
That mod needs to be slapped.

Re: So I...
On a side note,
Isnt it those who say tamers are useless are the first ones to wait until someoens pet is on a monster before they come in and hit them? *thinks back to the time of paragon balrons and chicken-**** warriors who would wait for tamers to come along*

Re: So I...
I always think it's funny when, after getting whacked somewhere, warriors of all types (and their dead pets) will go around asking (sometimes demanding!) for a pet rez. Tamers are fine as long as their not in the field, eh?

Re: So I...
its people like that who always turned me away from stratics anywho myself i much prefer playing my tamers (yes 2 of them) than any of my other characters pvm, they are so much more versitile than anything else. Considering one of my tamers has (no lie) a 60+ 100% 40lmc 11 mana regen suit its no wonder tho..
i can happily drop med on her for another skill. One of my tamers is an old-school mage-tamer and i have great fun with her the other is turning spellweaver-tamer and im hopeing to get her done soon with that suit she needs no med so i weas thinking about training up a cu-sidhe and trying her at pvp ![]()

Re: So I...
I'm thinking of making a tamer for myself, but seeing how I still have trouble sometimes controlling just my char, I don't know how I'm gonna be with me and pets. I see my boyfriend play his tamer and I don't know how they can say that it's easy.

Re: So I...
I've seen some of those posts too. Sometimes I just wish I could reach through the screen and slap people.
My husband doesn't touch my tamers as he can't control the pets. Everytime he has tried he ended up with them and him dead. He says it's to hard to try and know what is going on in three places at once. I've had it with chicken fighters though. If they want the spawn that badly I'll let them have it all to themself. I've ran into quite a few jerks in game lately.

Re: So I...
I have a tamer... I'm absolutely horrible at it.. you have to control the pet while watching your own back at the same time. I can multi-task with the best of them, but that's just crazy. My tamer basically just has 110 taming so she can ride cool mounts. *snickerz*
As for the Mods.. hell there are a few bad apples spread throughout the staff over there.. isn't just limited to Mods.. but thank goodness the really cool ones far outnumber the pond scum. |
