Not sure if this ones been mentioned on the forums here...but the is a scam alot of people have been using to get people to lose their arties and other goodies.
The person will first ask you if you want to learn how to duplicate something. (also note this is illegal in the first place)
They will say that they don't even have to touch it. Handing you a bag with an axe and 200 gold in it, they will tell you to remove the axe from the bag, then place whatever artie or item you want to duplicate, and then double click axe and click on the bag. In my friends case he was asking about it and decided to see where the scam was going. So he told them that he wanted to duplicate his Ornate Crown of the Harrower. Instead of placing the crown in the bag tho...he placed a junk dagger in the bag. As soon as he clicked on the bag, the contents fell to the ground and eagerly the culprit snatched it up thinking it was something worth something.

Not long ago, there was a person posting (cant remember where) about a program they got from someone that gave you SoulStone codes. They wanted to send it over ICQ, needed your number, yada, yada. Nevermind that this would be completely illegal in the first place. I asked a couple questions to see where it was going and just by the responses I knew there was some degree of shadyness there.

These people suck!

I'm amazed at what new and rather lame tactics scammers use, they never cease to amaze me at their desperateness (is that even a word? heh)

On the other hand though, if someone is silly enough to actually go along with this and then lose their artifact(s), then I don't have much sympathy for them.

The bait and switch scam has been around ever since the trade window went into effect. Only brand new players to UO should be effected by this tactic. There's another angle as well.. that's the overweight scam. They ask you to put gold, not a check, in the trade window, ironically "cause there is supposedly a scam with bank checks".. they're overweight, the gold falls to the ground, they pick up the item for sale, the gold, toss it in their bank box and run.

Pretty pathetic.. but, really just takes common sense. I feel bad for the new player who gets taken by these types of scams. The vet players who fall for it.. well.. that's just a gold sink and hopefully they learned a valuable lesson.

Just more of an FYI really:
The overweight issue hasnt been possible in a long time(at least not how you described), you cannot put something in a trade window if both you and the receiver do not have enough space, or if it would make either overweight
It simply says you cannot hold it/they cannot hold it, and drops the gold back into your bank, not on the floor
Just like how in the past if you tried to put too much gold in your backpack it fell, now it goes back into bank.
Im sure there are always bugs and exploits like it, but this particular method is not valid anymore

Yah.. I know it was fixed.. was using the overweight bug as an example of past scams that relied on lack of common sense or game knowledge on the victim's behalf. I guess a better example would have been the evil decor items. To think that so many people could actually afford 500 accounts in a matter of only minutes of the release of the items screamed duping to me.. and should have to others as well.. so I steered clear of buying deeds.

Wish someone would try this on me, just set off a few purple pots for them to pick up and explode on them *EVIL GRIN* just tell them that you would feel better if they just wore a robe (for less resists on them) HAHA wouldn't that be a thrill to see a scamer get burned, in the third degree!!!
