Running in 2D and 3D

I am just wondering if the people running UO in 2D lag less than the people running UO in 3D since you do are not really pumping polygons. I tried it and saw not much of a difference but i have not had a chance to try it when there is a lot going on on the screen.

Re: Running in 2D and 3D

I'm not sure what sort of computer you're running UO on, but I imagine that the better the machine, the less difference one would notice. For me, 3D is quite playable, but there is still such a difference between how the two clients run on my machine that the difference in gameplay is quite profound.

Re: Running in 2D and 3D

Yes I tend to lag more in 3d than in 2.

Re: Running in 2D and 3D

3d is playeable, but for PvP, I want no lag whatsoever. It all comes down to one's play style.

Re: Running in 2D and 3D

Thx guys. I like playing in 3D for some reason. I think it runs fine but I guess I have to test 2D and 3D for myself to see how my machine hadles it. It's gonna be hard to switch over to 2D. I wonder how the game will run w/ the new expansion. Will it be laaagggg central?

Re: Running in 2D and 3D

Actually 2D almost always crashes for me. I talked to Sunsword for a while about it and we couldn't figure out why. Which is fine with me because I can't stand the avatars or monsters in 2D (too Southparky for me). I've been a 3D fan forever!

I play on a $500 piece of crap machine and 3D runs great for me. (as well as Guild Wars, City of Heroes, and even WoW)

Re: Running in 2D and 3D

The reason 3D is so laggy imo is cause it's not REAL 3D graphics. It's just some shadowing and shaping put in all the wrong places lol. I think once they implayment Kingdom reborn some of the lag issues will be gone from 3D game play. Not saying there won't be lag, but I think it will deal with a lot of it.

Re: Running in 2D and 3D

In 3d, my character looks overweight, and I am afraid he might not have enough wind in his lungs to pvp. I am looking forward to the new engine.

Re: Running in 2D and 3D

The male paperdoll may look fat, but the female paperdoll looks positively anorexic. I cannot tolerate LOOK of the old 3d engine, especially the paperdoll. So I play 2d even though my machine runs either. I am very much looking forward to the new engine.

Re: Running in 2D and 3D

I've played UO from day 1 so 2D is what I started with, and 2D is what I still use. I like the simplicity of it. You can still maintain uniqueness, but you don't have to deal with being too flashy either.

I've tried the 3D engine, and well, it kinda sucks. It really looks like they just threw something together and pushed it out as 3rd Dawn to help sales. I don't notice a difference in lag or performance, but I can't get over the the fact that I feel like I'm playing a game that was quickly put together by a bunch of college kids as a computer science project. It looks like they tried to make it all flashy looking, but failed in the process and rather than go back and fix it they said, screw it, and turned it in, haha.
