Re: reviewboard.com: Ultima Online Problems - You Will Definitely Want To Stay Away
There is only one valid point I agree with him on and its the point system.
I have been marked once against something that wasn't in my case, found offensive to anyone yet someone had the urge to page on me for no reason and I found my self suspended. The gm that came even agreed with me that it wasn't an offensive statement I made, yet he had to file the report and what do you know, I get slapped with 72hrs. that was 2yrs ago I think I said something a long the lines of "I love jap food!" yes thats it... I was talking with friends about japanese and other foreign foods as one of those random moments of conversation and someone at the right place/wrong time took offense... ok back to subject. I believe that if the offense is petty, the points should be removed over a duration of time. If you get 72hrs for a petty ban like mine, it should decay after 6 months. first time offenders afk macroing will have that point removed after 1yr. 2 offenses wil result in 1 permanent point so on so on. so basically, if you commit enough crimes in one year, you will get banned. If you commit the ultimate crime (something extremely offensive to the game or players) you're auto banned. Basically it gives honest players the ability to repent for their mistakes. repeat offenders will eventually get what they have coming to them. That is the only valid point I will agree with him to any extint. |

Nice idea Kratos. Only question I would have is "WHO" decides what is petty?

How do you know when you have been reported? Does someone from UO contact you? Do you get warned? I have no idea how it happens.

Here is what I consider to be petty/large scale/bannable offenses Petty: 6 month points -small scale harassment (aka in appropriate childish name calling) -first time warned afk macorers -the ownership of illegal in-game items with knowledge of what you're buying/own. large scale: 1yr points -2nd time offenders of any of the petty offenses -the distribution of illegal in-game items etc etc the permenant point: -getting (2) large scale offenses in one year will result in one permenant and will require 2 years with out another offense or else you get banned. auto ban offenses: -the illegal creation of ingame items (aka duping, modding, or bugging) -extreme harrassment charges such as sexual/verbal harrassment, any types of threats (stocking, death, etc) -3rd time offenders of illegal scripting activity within the duration of 1yr (equivilent to 3 points) So, basically, a person can in time-wise scenarios, get as many petty offenses as he/she can as long as their previous points decay first. Its not something you would look forward to doing or be proud of, but it gives the honest player repent like I said in my prior post. The average player may recieve 1 point on his/her account through out his/her entire game career so why should it remain permantly? its like a mark of distrust or something.. And to answer your question Mercedes. If your account ever gets a mark on it, its always a suspension or ban. The obvious way you find out is trying to log in and you get the message saying your account is blocked. That message directs you to check your email for the reason, and you can also check your acc info and it will show you have 1 mark against you. |

Re: reviewboard.com: Ultima Online Problems - You Will Definitely Want To Stay Away
Just a couple questions on the illegal in-game item scenerio ...
Petty points: "the ownership of illegal in-game items with knowledge of what you're buying/own" Wouldn't that be condoning the actions of the very people who would receive an auto ban since the are doing so with knowledge? "-the illegal creation of ingame items (aka duping, modding, or bugging)" If they tell us it is illegal to have it, then why condone it by buying/owning it if you know what your buying/ owning is illegal to have in the first place? large scale points: "-the distribution of illegal in-game items" If they know they are distributing illegal in-game items then aren't they contributing to the illegal actions of those who would receive an auto ban? However, if they don't know they are distributing illegal in-game items then yes a minor warning with the deletion of all illegal items would be fair. If a second distribution is noted then it would seem unlikely that they 'didn't know' and were more actively contributing to the illegal in-game problem. *very interesting conversation* |

Re: reviewboard.com: Ultima Online Problems - You Will Definitely Want To Stay Away
well my idea was based around, wow I see this cool item on a vendor. I heard they're duped, but its cheap and I like it so I'll buy it. Pretty much like the shrouds ordeal a few months back.
That is to me what I would consider a petty warning point. now there is different levels. 1) what I mentioned above 2) Mass buying these items which can be considered a higher end offense (which could also lead to a lot of reselling) - the developers said during the shroud dupes that there were so many it was hard to tell who was making them. So, people mass selling them might of been innocent of making them, but were most definatly guilty of selling them. Its just one of those things you have to be proven against to either get banned or just a warning for. 3) the highest offense which is producing these items. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your point but, this seems to be the way I see it. This entire idea of mine is just an example anyways. Its more or less up to the developers and the community as a whole to decide how a crime should be charged. |

lol this is ridiculous. Maybe you should sue the maker of Doom because you have to click the mouse rapidly to fire your pistol off. Or maybe someone with poor eyesight can sue because Doom III strains his eyes.
