Returning vet looking for advice...

I've been away from UO for a while... I'm looking to come back and play again, and I'm hoping I can get some advice on a couple things... namely a new shard and a guild.

I want to start on a fresh shard, and have thought about going to Atlantic because of the population... I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what kind of community Atlantic has nowadays? A lot of people isn't always a good thing, but I do like seeing plenty of folk playing around/with me. I've heard good things about Sonoma, and Chessie for that matter.

I'm a casual gamer... used to roleplay, but haven't in years. I'm 28 now and married, with an 17 month old and a fulltime career. I'm hoping to hook up and play with others who are about the same... a couple hours in the evening a few nights a week. I'd like to find a guild with similar people... I can't keep up with the younger crowd ingame like I could 10 years ago, and I really don't even want to try.

If anyone wants to chime in, that would be excellent....

I'm EST by the way, and am transferring off AOL Legends.

Well I play atlantic and for the most part its a good shard. Like any other place there are your jerks.
The guild I am in is not a really big guild but we are allianced with another guild. We usually hunt a few night a week. also we do friday, saturday and sunday night most every weekend. Sometimes we do things during the day on the weekends
If u havent been in game ina while there area alot of new things which u are going to have to catch up on
If u decided to come to atlantic I could help u out with some stuff if u need it
Just PM me if u want to talk to me about it
Oh and we range in age from late 20's to the 40's for the most part. We have a couple of youngsters that play with us but they are not real consistent in playing with us

I've heard good things about Atlantic. I play Great Lakes and I'm not real impressed with thier community. I have too much time, real estate, and characters to even consider moving though. (I've thought about it)

So we really need some good folks over here.....

just wondering why do you want to move away from legends? I know its a smaller shard but in many ways that works to its advantage.. you never want for a house plot, a lot of the people there are friendly, and the spawns aren't too over crowded...

Im kinda recent back.. I came to legends from Pac.. (mostly cause my ping on pac was terrible).. and ive been quite happy

Re: Returning vet looking for advice...

I've heard good things about Legends, that's for sure.
Atlantic seems to be one of the popular ones around this forum as well...

I don't have any specific shard advice, just wanted to say think about what you want. Some shards are quiet...some are very active...others have a heavy RP community...etc etc... It will help you choose the shard for you.

I know there are Sonoma and Chessy players here somewhere...and you mentioned those...so many someone will pop in here and let you know about those shards as well.

Personally I am on Napa...moved there from Baja...i don't recommend it unless you want a really dead, quiet shard hehe

Re: Returning vet looking for advice...

I really don't have a terribly good reason to transfer from Legends. I'd like a new beginning since I'm pretty much starting over. I was just going to really transfer a mule and pack him with some supplies and seed money to get me started.

I don't think there's anything "wrong" with Legends aside from the low population... maybe. Like you said, some people prefer less people.

Anyways, thanks to everyone for the info and offer (Keven)!

You can consider joining DAGR, we do alot of quests together and support each other. Very tight knitty guild we are.

For a real change, try Siege. You're looking at a low population again.. but there's much more challenge and it keeps you on your toes.

If you'd prefer to stick to the proddy shards, then I'd have to say Chessy and Sonoma are best for the most Player Run Events.. either would be good from an RP standpoint.. haven't noticed one or the other having more or less of an RP community.

Re: Returning vet looking for advice...

Well, *pops in* i play chessy..it is a very..busy active shard. If lots of people is what you want then this is the shard for you. I like it and wouldnt go to any other shard, just because they are..dead to me. People come and people go..of course all for diff reasons. you could always create a char and take a look around and see how your treated. Might help you decide if its the shard for you or not.
