Question Renaissance Install Question for Jeremy

Ms. Dalberg,

I may be one of those people whose last installation of UO is Renaissance. You mentioned a splash screen. Is there a certain picture that we need to look for?

Thank you

Re: Renaissance Install Question for Jeremy

As soon as the game loads, there's a picture that shows up briefly for about ....3 seconds or so.
Easiest thing to do is just to download the latest edition of UO, that way ya won't have to worry about patching.

Re: Renaissance Install Question for Jeremy

I have a 9th Anniversary CD so I could reinstall from that. I just need a little more information to determine if I need to do that.

Re: Renaissance Install Question for Jeremy

you can install from that even if you havent purchased the expansions. The codes are linked to your acct not to the cd's.

Re: Renaissance Install Question for Jeremy

In your Ultima Online folder (Default is C:\Program Files\Origin\Ultima Online\ if you're installing from a Renn install I believe, otherwise its C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Ultima Online\, not sure though.) and in the \Models\Maps\ folder you should find .bmps that are along the lines of UO_[Differinghere]_Opening_Splash.bmp. In my 9th Age install I have from 9th Age to AoS and a JP install.

Re: Renaissance Install Question for Jeremy

Seems like 2 options are before you.

1: Do nothing, if they announce they will no longer support patching to the Ren install, and you run into patching problems. At that point you'll need to reinstall with your 9th Anniv or later cd. Patching should be normal then.

2: Preempt any possible future patching problems now by just reinstalling with your 9th Ann cd. Remember to save your macros!

Re: Renaissance Install Question for Jeremy

He still phrased it very incorrectly. What he should have asked is how much of a pain will it be for you to download the new client from a website or do you own a disk that is newer than UO:R (LBR, AoS, SE, Gold, 7th, 8th, 9th, etc).

Seriously, I don't know what ever happened to them only supporting two clients at a time and removing anything older. Now that you can download both 2d and 3d clients online for free legally they really should just make everyone update to the newest client.

Re: Renaissance Install Question for Jeremy

if i understand correctly, you shouldn't need to reinstall or update at all. just make sure that if you need to install or reinstall the game in the future, that you use a version more recent than renaissance. otherwise, you won't be able to get older patches you would need.

of course, this only applies if they decide not to support it.

Re: Renaissance Install Question for Jeremy

But as far as I understood it the splash screen just shows you what version you have activated on your account and not from what you install from.

or?

Re: Renaissance Install Question for Jeremy

The splash screen, until you login to the game with an account will be displayed with the version of the install. So, if you have a Renn install, it'll show the Renn screen, if its an AoS install, it'll show an AoS screen. However, as soon as you login to the game, it'll show the splash screen for the highest level expansion that account has access to. So, if the install is from Renn and the account you have access to is up to Samurai Empire, once the game has been patched to its fullest (otherwise you won't be able to even login) and you've loaded the client up, the first time on a fresh install it'll show the installation screen, so in this case Renn. However once you've logged in and logout, exit the client and then reload it it'll show the splash screen for Samurai Empire since the last account to login had access up to that.

Does that sortof make sense? I kindof got off track there, a lot.

Re: Renaissance Install Question for Jeremy

I still see the 9th Anniversary splash art. Is that because it includes all the previous expansions?
