Remember when?

Do any of you remember when the tillermen use to tell stories? Nobody seems to remember... it was very early on but I SWEAR they did. Didn't they???!

I don't know about stories but I remember they'd talk to you...

I remember them talking to you. Never remember a story though.

Re: Remember when?

Oh I recall they used to say the funniest things!...... just out of the blue and sometimes if you said something just right it would trigger a little tale..... usually hillarious

Re: Remember when?

I remember! NPCs in general used to be rather voluble. Ask where some other player was, and townsfolk would tell you if they'd seen that person. Drop some unneeded items on a shopkeeper, and he might give you a pointer to some treasure lying around (usually at some odd place called 0,0 or something like that).

I used to wish for something to throw at that darned tillerman. Now, I'm a little unnerved by the silence, as if something lurks in the depths waiting to swallow the unwary.

If I don't come back, I've been eaten by a kraken.

Re: Remember when?

Yup, it was one of the many things that I miss about UO, that gave it that uniqueness. Localization of the client was to blame for this, and the npc no longer responding like they used to.

Re: Remember when?

I remember it too. I think what I miss most were the random "Paladins" in T2A. They were pale, bald, naked, and if you had bad karma, would pretty much eat you alive.

Those things rocked!
I remember they had a viking sword, but as soon as they got damaged, they'd equip a spell book, cast in vas mani, then re-equip their sword and continue attacking.
Wish things like that weren't removed from the game, they were great to mess around with.
Although saying that, they were just a tad exploitable, because you could lure one upto that graveyard north of Delucia and it'd attack all the monsters in there and take hardly any damage, heh

Didn't they re-spawn those for the Ricardo Caravan event? My necro-mage had a heck of a time fighting off the evil spawn, as the paladins were attacking him as well.
