rare plant colors

Well.... out of 97 cross-breeding attempts, I got one white. And it came from a bright orange plant, though I can't recall what I was cross-breeding FOR, so I don't know the answer to the question about breeding for bright colors. Yet. But I'll update this post as I have more successes.

Not too bad for my first attempt I suppose.

Exactly... I guess I should have said "type or color"... hehe... I was growing for all types, color was a secondary affect...

and what do you think you get when you x a Red Fern & a Red Fern?

You get a Bright Red Fern... and a chance at a mutation...

I'm going to take a wild guess and say the odds of a White mutation are better than for a Black... and if you x Bright Red to Red, you get Red... So, I think the odds for a Black are better than a White... but I didn't build the thing, so I wouldn't know... hehehe...

As for the odds, when I first started I would get mutants in about every other batch (i grew about 20 at a time). I got more blacks then anything. Then I got nothing

I really think its just a random thing, luck of the draw ... or algorithm

Okay... well, I crossed another couple of hundred plants and got a black one coming now. It was a cross between two bright colored plants.

I also wanted to note (because I'd been wondering) WHEN the color changes to black or white and it is instantly upon cross-pollination. So if you're breeding ONLY for rare colors, you know you can stop feeding and watering the plant because if it does not show black or white then, I believe it never will be.

I'd wondered about that part, because I've had some that looked black upon xpoll, but when they produced seeds, they weren't...it's been so long ago though I might be confused. And I didn't think you could get a mutation from a red fern and a red fern(example, just normal colors). Yes, the seeds from that plant will be bright red fern seeds, but you have to xpol those for a mutant chance...I thought?

Hmm... well, I have not actually gotten a seed yet but the seed count (0/8) is very obviously black. I guess I will find out in a couple of days though. I'll let ya know.
