To a certain extent, but modern fencing has taken us away from the reality of battle, in which the rapier was almost always used in conjunction with an object in the left hand: a main gauche, a buckler, or a cape.

Which is why even a champion fencer would be vulnerable to one of the swordsmen of old; he isn't expecting to be kicked, or smashed in the face with a buckler, or have a cape tangle his sword, or have dirt thrown in his eyes. Fencing is a genteel sport and has gotten away from its original purpose, which was to train young men to defend themselves with cold steel.

Be that as it may, I'd still like to see a warrior-oriented fencing weapon in game. Most of the current ones are either two-handed, dagger-length, or assassin weapons.

Re: Rapiers anyone?

Rhus is correct, in the days when the rapier was actually used in combat it was almost always accompanied by a buckler or short secondary weapon.

Im certainly not looking for a super weapon here, just something a little more warrior oriented. I can use a dagger or a kriss with a shield and get a crazy rate of attack, however the special moves are geared almost exclusively towards the rogue/assassin player. Parry warriors have their choice of two weapons, the War Fork or the Lance. While the War Fork is an effective weapon, its....well....a fork , and the lance is one of the slowest weapons in the game.

Creating a Rapier weapon for the game would be as simple as taking the stats of the War Fork and switching out the special skills for two different ones, perhaps something like double strike and/or mortal strike. Then give it a shiny new picture and name it "Rapier"!

Besides, UO is one of the ONLY games of its kind in existance that doesn't have a Rapier weapon... . With such a huge variety of weapons in the game, how in the world did the poor Rapier get left out of the equation!?

Now since the rapier was such a thin, piercing weapon, wouldn't it make more sense for it to have armor piercing?

Re: Rapiers anyone?

I do like the rapiers.. this is a silly question but what time period is UO supposed to be in? Do you think all the weapons and armor are time appropriate for UO?
