Rapiers anyone?

It just occurred to me that there is no classic "rapier" style sword in UO. The next weapon set released should definately have a fencing weapon such as this :grin:

That would be nice but would it game mechanic be much different than the Kryss. Both are light weapons and both do piercing type attacks.

I fully agree, and PM'd one of the devs about a month ago on Stratics about adding Rapiers, pointing out that current fencing weapons are either:

1. assassin oriented,
2. two-handed
3. Dagger length (with dagger damage)

I suggested that we needed a warrior-oriented weapon for fencers, specifically a rapier. Said weapon to have Double Strike and Mortal Strike as specials, since rapiers traditionally are fast, deep-penetrating weapons. Dev agreed to take it up for discussion with other developers.

I would suggest that anyone wanting a new weapon in game to please use the new "feedback" feature at www.uo.com , it is easy to use and the devs have promised that they review the suggestions daily, unlike the Stratics Ideas Den.

Aye, Rapiers would be excellent. I've been bugging them for craftable two handed swords as well (ones that aren't made in Japan).

Trouble with the rapier would be that someone would pair it with a shield and all the grace and finesse of fencing would be lost.

Then they need to give a bonus if you use it with only one hand. Kinda like Bushido. Parry chance goes up if you have it without shield???

I think we have learned the pain of making a new weapon type too powerful *cough*bokuto*cough*.

Bah, just don't make it stack with Bushido! I'd like to be able to have a decent warrior that isn't a Samuri, Ninja, or a Paladin!!! I also think special moves should run off of stamina, but thats just me!

To a certain extent, but modern fencing has taken us away from the reality of battle, in which the rapier was almost always used in conjunction with an object in the left hand: a main gauche, a buckler, or a cape.

In college fencing their were none of those extra devices.
