This is the seventh time I am attempting to complete the "Gareth The Emissary" quest for the Cloak of Humility. I have completed this Quest twice and failed the last 5 times on 3 different chars. I have experienced the identical negative results 5 out of the last 7 tries!!!

At the moment I have completed the Brit Library quest for 5 Poison Sacs, I have answered the questions, I've invested yet another 225,000 gp (75,000 x 3) in the donations and I am currently running errands between 7 NPCs. Therein lies the big roblem in the last 5 out of 7 attempts.

Maribel in Brit accepted my initial starting Ring and gave me a Cauldron.
Walton in Fel Skara took the Cauldron and gave me a Stool.
So far so good...unfortunately nobody wants the Stool!
In fact, by and large, they seem to want the same things!

Deiddre in Fel Brit wants Work Gloves but so does Nelson in Haven! They're always sooo competitive in a Communist sense!

Kevin in Tram Minoc wants A Seasoned Skillet and so does Sean in Fel Minoc! These Cordon Bleu Chefs are really petty when it comes to cookig utensiles!

Last but not least, Jason in Skara Tram says he was given a Friendship Mug but he just doesn't want it. That is sooo like Jason! On top of that he won't say what he really wants! He's deep in denial and needs therapy!

Are quests supposed to be this convolute, this ambiguous, this impossible?

I try this quest again and again with approximately the same frustrating result. I have now lost 1,125,000 gp in attempts for a third Cloak of Humility...seems kinda expensive and completely unnecessary. No?

How does one get their third Cape of Humility???

That doesn't sound right at all. Did you check the sheppard already?

The NPCs do not want the same thing every time the quest is done, the items to NPC is random. (atleast, it was when I did the quest)

The only way I know to complete this quest is to write down which NPC wants which item. So I have a pretty good record of all 7 NPC requests.

The last 5 times I have tried to do this quest (on 3 different chars) there was no way to complete the 7 item exchanges. In each instance I ended up holding an item that no one wanted and in most cases 2 of the NPCs wanted the same item.

Very frustrating and seriously bugged!

Well, maybe if it's bugged so 2 NPCs want the same thing, you can try going back to an NPC you've already exchanged items with.

Atleast, it's something you could do while waiting in line for GM support.

To the OP, I hope you are able to complete your Quest. It seems many of these Quests have "tricks" to them, at least from what I've read. Maybe it's just luck, hehe.

No I haven't submitted a bug report yet...I'm still searching for a work-around.

So I went back to all 7 NPCs tonight and there were no changes at all...

-Maribel (who last night accepted my Ring and gave me a Cauldron) completely ignored me, the biotch!
-Walton (who took my Cauldron yesterday & gave me a Stool) acted like he didn't even know me. Is it my breath?
-Deirdre still demands a pair of Work Gloves...just a tad too butch!
-Nelson wants the same pair of Work Gloves...kinda competitive!
-Kevin & Sean both want the same Seasoned Skillet for gourmet prestidigitations.
-And good old passive/aggressive Jason peevishly laments that he was given a Friendship Mug and he emphatically doesn't want it. Of course, in true Jason form, Jason refuses to stipulate exactly what he does want. Big time denial!

So I am, once again, for the 5th time screwed in this simple quest. Nobody wants my Stool and all the NPCs want the same thing!

I am out, yet another, 125,000gp and a couple of hours of game time. I thought quests were meant to contribute to the depth and fun of UO? What fun!

Damn, wish I could help. I don't remember having any problems before, but the whole competative NPCs wanting the same thing does sound familiar.

Hopefully it's not something stupid like the stool needs to be marked as quest item, or you need to "drop" it on the NPC or something.

I'd still put in a bug report just to see if that's the problem.
