The only fair way to do it would be to open a new, non-PB shard and let people move there. To change some of the current shards and leave a couple as the "cheater" shards would really suck!

I am sure it is just a typo but look at Darkscribes closing.



As an occasional Siege player, I kind of relish being able to hunt scripters for fun, but then again, if a large amount of non-PB players want to play with the regular rule-set, a new shard would make the most sense. I want to see what the beta test reveals before making that decision.

PB is a resource hog on my computer. I used it when I played a couple of other games and it caused lag. First, I can't afford to upgrade my computer due to medical bills and second I don't want to have to upgrade just because UO starts using PB.

Now with that said. PB is great at stopping cheaters but it isn't fool proof. Look at Half-Life for example. I played it for a while without PB and got so frustrated about being killed without a chance at doing anything. I then went the PB way and the cheating was only tempered but was still prevalent no matter the server I chose to play. The hackers and cheaters would proudly announce that they were using PB but it wasn't stopping them from cheating. Will it stop the cheating on UO...for a while I am sure it will, but with anything where there is a will there is a way and someone will find the crack for the UO PB code and the cheaters will be back for as long as the crack it there.

But anything is obviously better then nothing. I hate cheaters and hacks as much as most others but if PB lags me out I will have no choice but to quit UO until I can upgrade my system, which could be a while.

Ok, enough with the acronyms. The hades does PB stand for?

PB is PunkBusters. The new program they are going to use to catch cheaters, scripters, whatever.

I used punks own site to point problems out with it for 1 i do play uo tamers and tailors but another thing im wanting to point out is this why should many whom do not want to add this to there computers be forced to feel like were cheaters scammers and scripters.


uo can't steal your information if my other half even thought that was possable we wouldnt be in uo but punk can.

It was wrote that way to grab people attention i use punk own site for the infomation for 2 and it can read everything as you have to give 100% access to your computer's

Im not a cheater or a scripter yet this program is intrusive why should i be made to feel like one if i dont want to install this on my computer.

Maybe alot just need to go to punkbuster's site and read about the problems it has with alot of programs people do run on the own personal computers.

I think what UO is trying to do is a very good idea we do need to stop scripts and cheaters because it does ruin the in game economy and ruins the fun for the honest members in our community.

However,i did go over to PB own website last night to read what everyone is talked about and i must admit i didnt like what information i saw

To me it does seem we have to agree to a new TOS which does allow PB Admins access to my files to scan.

Ok thats fair enough if it was only UO's files they were gonna scan but its NOT they will have full access to all content on your pc

I dont like this personally because i do online banking,paypal etc and i DONT want to have to agree to conditions which will allow someone i dont even know from adam access to my computors information

I dont think PB is a good idea for this reason ok ya it might stop cheaters but there is no way i will allow this to happen to me personally

I then went to log into game and saw that Darkscribe did a post telling us that its been running for 10 years and theres not been one chance of security breach yet ,well ok thats all cool and stuff BUT it just admits to me that i read right they WILL have access to all your information ANYTHING you do on your pc WILL be able to be accessed by PB Admin

If they wanna test it and all thats cool but right from now on after seeing that info on the originators website thereis no way someone i dont know is going to have access to my pcs files

Im an honest person and i know there is cheats out there but there HAS to be some other way .


Also it doesnt like certain routers and their disclaimer says they WILL NOT BE responsible for anything which happens to your pc well im sorry but i cannot afford to go out and buy a new pc just cos PB says there is a risk it could fry it.

I play with a router so both myself and hubby can play and well if PB isnt compatible with all routers one being netgear which i have then i guess i wont be able to play because im not going out and spending all this uneccessary money because UO want to make us put something on our system which isnt compatible with things that people use everyday

There are problems in UO dating back to Beta, but how can you honestly expect them to fix these problems if they are spending time and resources fixing problems caused by Scripters, dupers and punks. The Devs have their hands full doing more with less. PB is tool that will make an even play field for everyone.

there's got to be a program thats less intrusive.

I agree something need's to be done about them as well.
I work hard in uo as many other honest people do as well

You say this programs safe can stop cheater's and so on then answer this and it come's directily from punks site as well and i also like answer to the router problem's this program has as well as nortons and msA serious security (buffer overrun) flaw involving PunkBuster was recently discovered and reported. This flaw affects the optional WebTool component of PunkBuster servers on all platforms and for all supported games. This flaw does not affect game players (the PunkBuster Client) nor default installations of the PunkBuster Server, only PB Server installations where the server admin configured the use of the pb_sv_httpPort setting. An attacker with knowledge of the flaw can exploit it by crashing the game server at will. New PB Server Version v1.229 which addresses the flaw began going out for all supported games via our auto-update system within a few hours of the report. Any and all PB Server admins who use the WebTool are strongly encouraged to verify that they are running version v1.229 or higher of the PB Server on all of their servers that have PunkBuster enabled.
