Not sure if this is the right place for this but ...

Just downloaded the 14 day trial from Fileplanet and i'm having problems when its trying to install .

Basically the program is hanging when its on " configuring windows installer " .

I've disabled everything and even tried installing in safemode with no luck .

Re-downloaded it 4 times now , twice from Fileplanet and twice from Gamespot so i don't think its a file corruption issue .
Downloaded other items from fileplanet to check it wasn't my end courrupting things and those other demos install fine .

System is a Pendium D dual core 3.4ghz , 1gb DDR2 , Nvidia 7900GS , SB Audigy Soundcard .

Checked Directx and thats fully updated , can't think of what else to try , any help would be appreciated .
All other drivers including MB and bios are the latest for my hardware .

Now failing getting the trial to install ,l my friend has the Renessaince discs , would i be able to install form those andf patch it up then use the trial code i have ?

I'd go the cd route. That's how I did it. It should patch up to where you can play, that may take a while depending on your connection.

Maybe your computer is too high-tech for the game.

Or you could try downloading it from EA themselves

Or you can try updating msinst.exe in windows (it think its called that).

Microsoft Installer can be updated via Windows update, or various other methods. I frequently have to update this on machines running Windows 2000 service pack 3 or lower, and other newer operating system SPs.

The message you are getting is from the installer file, not Windows Installer in your OS. The updated installer package, if you need it, should run the trial correctly and you will not get this message lock up.

Thanks all for the help , i'll try updating the installer program first that Samhain suggested see if that helps , failing that i'll just patch up the disc version .

Shouldn't take too long to patch up i hoipe , on 8mb ADSl

There is actually away to make a computer so good it will not play UO? I didn't think it was possible... for heck any game

Hehehe, I was joking.

Although I'm sure it is almost impossible to get some of the older windows based games to run unless you have some type of application that converts/allows you to run old windows technology.

That is why I want a retro computer so I can play all them amazing games!
