Possible use for Item Identification

I'm not sure if this has been suggested here already, but I was just thinking about some of the not-so-useful skills and had an idea for Item ID.

With the new random way resource spawning works, what if Item ID (could be renamed to resource ID or whatever) would allow people to see which trees and ore veins are carrying which type of resource. Higher level resources could take higher skill, and it could even run parallel to the skill required to smelt/craft them.

It would still make gathering the high end resources harder than it use to be, but at the same time reinstate an old useless skill, as well as reward active gatherers over scripters. And it could be a toggled skill via the blue gem so the player wouldn't be spammed while not gathering. What do you guys think?

Although I do like the idea, I just don't have anymore room on my crafting charaters to add another skill. It was hard enought to force Armslore on them.

As much as I'd like to have it all, the whole idea behind limited skillpoints is that you can't have everything, but have to make choices as to what you want to specialize in. That way people actually need each other in the game rather than have their own characters for every purpose (much like it is now with so-called mules).

I have to say I rather like the idea. Just rename the skill something more appropriate and there you go.

I think players should be able to use it and have a chance for a unique property show up on an item they are trying to ID. For example: you pick up a piece of studded armor. It has normal stats, but you use Item ID on it and it becomes "Studded Armor of Astrology" and you get 10% LRC or LMC or whatever. Maybe you would be able to tell what kind of items would require it by it having a slightly different hue than a normal drop of similar item. However, if the Item ID skill is never used on the item, the additional trait is not valid...only after someone has ID it.
