Portrait, Painting (ToMayto, ToMahto)

ok... (takes a deep breath)...

This is my first post here, and I heartily suspect I'm about to make a fool of myself, but here goes anyway...

Sorting through my 105 months accumulation of stuff (in my original tower, no less) I was trying to decide what to turn in and the portraits and paintings now have me totally confused, mostly since I just found something I'd never seen.

This is a bit hard to explain and I can do a screen shot if necessary, but someone may know the answer right away - you guys are smart! (btw, I haven't checked this in KR yet)

This has to do with the lady in orange/light blue medium size painting/portrait. First of all, I just turned the orange ones around and got a lady in light green??? One was a Portrait, and one was a Portrait Recovered from a Shipwreck, so that's not the difference.

Secondly... the blue ones. I don't have as many of these, but they're called Paintings and not Portraits. I turned one of those with a decorator tool and she stays blue, but now it won't highlight and says I'm not allowed to access that. IF I turn it back to east facing, it then highlights and behaves normally.

Please, someone, tell me I'm not losing my mind here, and that there really is a light green one?

(btw... don't bother trying this in KR... graphics are totally different)

The ones to the south in each set are "normal". The ones behind them have been turned.

The bag shows the green next to the blue.

Okay your question interigued me enough to go play with my paintings. You are correct the lady in orange does change her dress color when you changed her direction. I had completely fogotten that. You are also right with the other. The lady in blue will highlight until you turn her, then she doesn't.

Aren't you glad you aren't going nuts. Just wait until you run into the bug that puts one of these gals under your house sign. I have one and have no idea how I did it.

You'll also see them littering up the landscape, where that happened and the houses dropped.

And the lady in orange turns green, not blue, right? It's not just my eyes? I can't believe I never saw that before!

Hi & Welcome to the forums! I haven't played UO in a few years but when I did play I was able to turn the portrait and have diff color outfits too. There is another medium size one that is blue & turn it one way and it goes Green. I always thought it had to do with the direction they're facing, but since yours are diff colors in all directions i'm not really sure.

As for the turn in... the only thing I can think of is it responds to the the items code and when its turned, and the color changes, then the code also changes. So perhaps they don't have both of the codes set for the turn in, only the original one.

As soon as I've turned in all this stuff that's been cluttering up my UO life, I'll definitely introduce myself in more detail. Right now I've got too many snowflakes and excessive treasure maps on the brain.

I think if memory serves there are 3 paintings that "change" when turned..... the blackish one and the very large painting I think are the only ones that do not change when turned. Don't much use them anymore but that's what I seem to remember a green vs red dress woman and a blue vs violet dress woman.... and the lady in blue vs the lady in a yellow orange.... that one that you showed was always my favorite. Too bad UO can't come up with a few new portraits... wouldn't it be cool if you could get a portrait of your own character. *daydreams a bit* Yes that would be neat....
