Philly Townhall info thread

The original poster thread on Stratics

A post on Stratics from Dermott of LS

Quote:
Let's see a few I can remember... I heard about an hour and a half or so (from getting the god client started... about 4:30pm eastern)

- BODs are getting looked at, but nothing solid. A points system was mentioned by a player and they "wrote it down" (which I found odd since it was also mentioned in the stickied post above, so I wonder why it seemed to them like a new idea)

- Some mention of mixed Fel/Tram areas in the Stygian Abyss, and reasons to visit Felucca

- Trade window will be list based to prevent "hiding" scams.

- Someone mentioned the idea of being able to repair/enhance in the trade window (ala WoW), it recieved a good reception by Silvani and I guess Darkscribe, I didn't catch who the male presenter was.

- Potions SHOULD become stackable (They said they were working on it)

- Container count/weight limits stay the same as they are now

- SA will be using a different style to mapping than "legacy"

- Some suggestions were taken for the mini-map functionality (it hasn't been fully programmed yet)

- Commas for checks were mentioned by a UO engineer according to (I believe) Silvani as a "simple change"

- Check max amounts will remain at 1,000,000 gold. They will NOT be increased due to the desire to have some kind of limit to held gold

- Factions was mentioned, but they said that they had a LOT of ideas, but Factions are effectively on hold till post SA.

- Create All/ Create X items option was mentioned. Crafting menus are still Under Construction.

- Female Paperdolls still very much under construction (Silvani said she wasn't happy with them)

- A bit of talk about applying to be a GM

Those are some of the highlights I listened to

One more I just remembered:

- Possible updates to SOSs and Treasure Chests

Notes from Sarphus (The guy who posted the videos)

Other things of note that weren't mentioned yet...

The one of the first things we saw was the Ancient Wyrm. I must say it looked freakin awesome. We later saw a balron, and it also looked awesome, but too small. Sylvani mentioned that she has a put a request in personally to have the size scaled up a bit on the balron. I suspect it will be at least as large as a daemon.

The devs demonstrated the flexible desktop, which appeared to be still a little buggy (only a little), but also quite awesome. Basically, when you turn on the flexible desktop, you can resize your game window to reveal blackspace behind play window. The gameplay window scales beautifully to match the boundaries you set for it. I suspect a lot of players will use the flexible desktop.

They also demonstrated the flexible toolbars. Basically, you use a popup menu to add new toolbars. The current limit is 1000 toolbars and the bars can range in size based on the specifications you set. You can click on the handles for the toolbar to drag their size up or down to the size you want. Toolbars can be drug to form a horizontal or vertical toolbar. When you drag the box that determines a toolbar's constraints, whichever axis (x or y) is longer will determine the orientation of the toolbar. So basically, if you drag a box that is wider horizontally, you will have a horizontal toolbar of roughly that size. If you drag a toolbar that's taller than it is wide, you will have a vertical toolbar. You can not drag a single toolbar that has more than one row of buttons, but you can just drag a new toolbar for the next stack.

You can drag spells onto your toolbar and then right click on them to specify things like targetting. You can make a heal self button by dragging the greater heal spell onto your toolbar and setting it to be a target self heal. It's really quite nice

There were some misc bugs, but overall the client was pretty stable until they tried to close it. Then it blew up gracefully to the "report a bug" screen that all windows users are familiar with.

The devs let us make requests of places to go...
We saw an ice elemental, which looks freakin awesome. He looks like his name should be "pokey" because he has 2 rather long, pokey arms. Sorry for the poor humor.

We saw the ancient wyrm, which looked really mean.

We saw the drake, which appeared to have been redrawn. It looks less like trogdor and looks bigger than I expected. It's really quite cool.

Wyverns are bigger. They look big and nasty.

We saw ogre lords... their pants do not go all the way up... you will see crack.

We saw hell hounds. They looked bigger and meaner. I really like the new hell hound art, because it more closely resembles how brutal they are as pets (they bite quite hard)

We saw an ostard, which looked about like a raptor if you've seen jurassic park

We saw a serpentine dragon, which looked like a classical chineese dragon. It looked great.

We saw a succubus, which looked a lot darker and a little bigger than the current one. It looked pretty good.

Nick spent most of the demo riding around on a giant beetle. It's a lot bigger than the current one and it looks a LOT cooler. If you are familiar with african insects, it looks kinda like a rhino beetle and is roughly 3-5x as large as the current blue beetles.

We saw the rune beetle, which I think needs some work. It was about the size it is now... the same size as the blue beetle. It imo didn't look quite as good as the current one.

We saw a stone gargoyle... surprisingly it's a wingless gargoyle. IMO, it resembles a demon of some sort. Very well done.

lets see... I'm still trying to recall it all... a lot went on.

The vendor window was cool

well... I'll think a little and see if I remember anything else. I am very impressed with KR.

CatHat (EA/Myth Dev) comments in same thread

There will be new graphics for most spell affects. Including those for Necro's and spellweavers. Iam looking forward to that. Player housing looks wonderfull. Waterfall and Lava Tiles will be moving

Oh yeah - there's gonna be a lotta surprises and nice little details n things in there.

Working hard to do justice to the all the customized housing too.

Re: Philly Townhall info thread

I had to work, so I'm looking forward to the posting of the !!!!!!! file so I can listen.
Nice to see that most folks are positive about it so far. Of course you get a few that complain that X doesn't work, well, duh, it's in beta.

Looking forward to a hands on tour.
