Pets and Bonded status

Ok, so one of my characters was given a swamp dragon as a mount.

I read here on these forums that you should wait til pets are bonded before going hunting with them.

What is a bonded pet, how do I get my pet bonded, and what perks does having your pet bonded give?

Re: Pets and Bonded status

A bonded pet means, that when it dies, it doesn't dissapear, instead, it goes into a ghostly form
You'd need a tamer with 80 lore/80 vet to try and resurrect it.

To bond with your pet, you need to feed it, wait 7ish days, then feed it again it'll bond with you.

The description from UO.com reads as follows

Quote:
Pet Bonding

* After a real-time week of ownership, pets may bond with their owner.
* If the animal requires more than 29.1 minimum skill to tame, you must have the minimum skill to tame it before it will bond with you. Examples of animals with 29.1 or lower are horses, ostards, dogs, cats, pack horses, etc..
* Bonded pets will recall with you.
* Bonded pets will turn into pet ghosts when they die.
* Instead of [tame], the [bonded] tag will display above a bonded pet.
* A bond is only broken if the pet goes wild or is released.

Pet Resurrection

* When a bonded pet dies, it turns into a “pet ghost.” This ghost can still obey the movement commands (follow, come, etc.). The pet ghost will not dissipate or lose loyalty, but cannot be stabled.
* Any player can attempt to resurrect the pet with bandages if they have at least 80 Veterinary and 80 Animal Lore. The pet owner or a friend of the pet must be nearby to confirm they want the pet to be resurrected.
* Resurrected pets suffer skill loss. Pets resurrected by their owner receive less of a skill penalty.

Exceptions to taming rule are swamp dragon, and hiaryu(which has its own requirements), also giant beetles and fire beetles count as packies.

Wait, so with the swampie, do I have to do anything special to bond it? I was just gonna feed it some raw ribs or steaks or something...

Also, do I feed it by dragging food on top of it?

Re: Pets and Bonded status

Naw, nothing special
The swampie needs a high taming to tame it, but no/low taming to control/bond
Same as the beetles.

All ya gotta do is drag food on it and let go (so to speak)
I think the swamp dragons eat meat, if not, try fruit/veg

Re: Pets and Bonded status

Would it be advisable to let the swampie fight for me if I wanted to decimate a whole room full of ettins?

Just trying to kill them faster to get my LRC gear, heh.

For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.
