Re: Pet Training

Ugh, I have never completed a crafting skill...well other than lumberjacking that I raised through fighting. I know crafters are important and all, but I don't have the patience and/or programs to make one.

This is what I did...I said "all guard me" ... then, "all kill" and targeted one of them. They started fighting and took no damage...and made no skill gain.
You have to be in a guild to have your pets get gains by fighting each other. Either join a guild or spend the 25k to make your own. Remember to set up a macro to heal both pets. You will need to add a 2-3 sec delay in between each application of your aids in order to get them both healed.

Should look like this in UOA:

Use Item (Aids)
Target (Your first pet)
Pause 2000 (or 3000 if your dex is low)
Use Item (Aids)
Target (Your second pet)

Also, a good idea is to set up a macro that states "All Stop, All Stay" (I use the UO Macros in the options screen for this) to get them to stop fighting if you can't get one of them healed fast enough. Once healed start the fight again.

Here is the link to the Stratics Guide to pet training as well:

Hope this helps.

Re: Pet Training

it is fun training creatures when you are in a guild, as i said before a gaman is a cool creature to train against as long as you don't want to train magic resis.. and at the end of me training my mare, CU and bake on this one poor gaman, its stats were good enough to solo fan dancers!!! lol quiet easily too, with little healing!! imagaine if i had 5 of them as they only take one slot at that level... but for some strange reason, i went to claim him one day and he was not in my stable?!?! I was gutted, my greatest achievement, a gaman that could take fan dancers!!

Re: Pet Training

I have a few things i do to trian my pets up. i have a 7X WW, 7X Mare, and 8X beetle. and my Cu is very close to being finished, but not from doing this. but you can not be in a guild for this to work, and it only works on all the magic skills. ie: magery, resist, eval intel, poison, and med. if you are in a guild resign, train your pets then rejoin. the best place i found for training them is in bull alley. all you have to do is have one attack the other. they will do no damage to each other but they will gain skills. trust me i GM'ed all my pets this way. However, all skills over 100 won't raise and it takes a while to get them GM. so if you have the time, do it this way. no bandaids needed for this.
Now, to raise the melee skills i just dug up(or had someone else dig up) a shadow ele. then had both pets (mare and WW, or mare and Beetle) attack the shadow ele. you will need to be there to vet your pets, and this too takes awhile, but it's worth it.

Now my question is, does anyone know how to raise your skills that are over 100? for example on your rune beetles. i think i have heard that you can only rasie those if you fight higher end monsters, or bosses.

Stratics pet training guide has all you need. (I usually use shadow elementals, but that is rather boring so if you'd rather hunt, the guide lists each type of pet to match up properly with your pet's skill levels).

Thus the reason I reiterated the Stratics guide. It is good for those who actually want to hunt, because it lists the skill ranges of various monsters that you can match up to your pet to get the best gains.

Depending on what youre training, it may be more work vettnig than others. A Cu, for example, needs a little vetting for the first 15 min and then you just need to keep an eye on him and vet rarely. Of course, its not a good idea to start a Ferret off this way ;P
I agree this is the fastest way to train (it wont offer any help with resist spells)
and can become very boring after about 1000 bandaids an acouple of hours,
but for a green pet this is the best way to get started..
Now all you need is a miner with a gargoyle's pickaxe.........
