Parry Question

ok... so after finding this helpful link on stratics http://uo.stratics.com/content/skills/parrying.php

...i still have a few clarifying questions.

Lets say im using both parry and bushido... as my bushido increases, my chance to parry with a shield decreases while weapon parry chances increase. what i want to know is, if im wearing a 1 handed weapon and a shield, are both chances calculated? is it jsut added together or does one overwhelm the other?

basically, what is the interaction between parry+bushido and onehanded wep+shield?

Re: Parry Question

Bushido is geared for "two" handed weapons. So when it says it decreases with a shield that means using one handed weapons .

Not sure that explains it well.

Re: Parry Question

I've never understood it. It seems to me that you would have either Bushido and use 2 handed weapons or Parry and use one handed. Is that close?

Re: Parry Question

If you have Bushido, you pretty much shouldnt use a shield.

I think Vepl is incorrect tho; if you dont have a shield equipped, you have a decent chance to parry. Its just better with a 2 handed wep vs. a one handed. As soon as you equip the shield, the chances drop through the floor...

Re: Parry Question

Yea, the calculator shows little difference between 2-handed and 1-handed weapon parry (right around 4% difference)... but the shield is way way lower...

i guess my question is this - lets say the shield parry chance is 7% and the 1-handed weapon parry chance is 32% - which one of the following do i have if i equip both a 1 handed weap and a shield

a) 32% - assumes that it just uses the highest parry chance
b) 7% - assumes that shield overrides other parry chances
c) 39% - assumes that all parry chances are totaled

Re: Parry Question

Here's an old and excellent parrying trick! I'm sure this is posted somewhere, but it can't hurt. This is strictly for gaining insane numbers for the parry skill.

First, take all your chars armor off. Arm a weapon that your char has no skill in and be sure to set that skill down or locked in your skills menu. Don't equip a shield either. Be sure to bring lots of bandages if you need to work your healing and anatomy too. If not, just bring a swampy with an exceptional barding deed and you won't have to heal at all.

Off to the Yew Farm. Engage all the sheep and cats in the 'corral.' Be sure to tab out as not to kill them. Don't engage the doggies, they do a little more damage. Surround yourself with the little frothing, wooley beasts, let them attack you! Then sit back and watch your gains go insane! I've attached a pic, hopefully this time, had an issue with the first format.

Anyway, I was working on my parrying for about 15 minutes and check out the +20.1 in gains!

Good Luck! Stoney

Re: Parry Question

Ezekiel is right on this; if you have Bushido and Parry, don't equip a shield. Use weapons only. Many think that you have to have a 2 handed weapon, but that isn't true either. At 120/120 Bushido and Parry, you have a 35% chance to parry with a 1 handed weapon and a 40% chance to parry with a 2 handed weapon.

And another method to gaining parry is hiring female wrestlers. If you use unarmed female fighters (Jhelom pits) then they don't do damage to you. I think they still hurt your durability though, so get nekkid and have nothing on except a weapon when you do it. Do what any guy would do when surrounded by women- start stripping down!

So I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Did you test this out yourself? It kind of goes against the theory of gaining (more success = more possible gains = better gains) as putting the shield on when you have Bushido wil drop your ability to successfully parry any attack...
