Overheating problem

After weeks of ignoring UOKR (it worked okay -- I just found it clunky to use), I patched up this morning and tried to play.

As soon as I started moving, my PC fans began whirring and I got an overheat warning from the Intel MB probe.

My system is high end and I don't overheat on games that are considerably more processor and graphics intensive, and I didn't have this problem with earlier builds of UOKR.

Mainly wondering if the newest patches have broken the client for anyone else . . . .

Re: Overheating problem

It hasn't broken anything for me. I do know that KR takes about 100% of the cpu all the time. So hearing the fans run is not uncommon. I would check your hardware. KR shouldn't take that much cpu usage but it does. Your hardware should be able to keep it cool enough even at 100% (assuming you are not overclocking your cpu) to keep from getting the warning

Re: Overheating problem

Vepl is right- KR does take 100% cpu when running. To overcome overheating goto your bios and underclock your cpu slightly and monitor your cpu tempurature.

You could also try altering graphics to performance level and generally anything else that will bring the temp down.

No idea why KR needs 100% cpu..just hope its a bug EA will fix

Re: Overheating problem

I reinstalled and the problem seems much better. The fans weren't just running -- they were grinding -- and now they are not rising much above a hum and I'm not getting heat warnings. I am suspecting a bug or a patch-corrupted routine of some kind that was making too hard a pull on the graphics card.

Sadly, I can't see underclocking to use a client that I don't like very much.

They do need to adjust the cpu usage of the client and make a few more little changes before I'll be comfortable using this.
