Old school UO?

I don't know if any of you realize this, but it seems to me like the majority of the UO population is totally different people than were playing the game two or three years ago.

Why? Well, I think it's because EA has totally changed the mechanics, as well as the playability, and general experience, of the game.

Back in the day, there was only one kind of mage: Mage. There was only one book of spells, the Spellbook. There were no "combat moves" or "power scrolls".

Now the game has been turned into a 2d WoW with player housing and boats.

Is it really so much for me to ask that they bring back a T2A era shard?

I dont think that the player base is so different from 2-3 years ago.

I dont think its too much to ask, but I have no idea whatsoever on the amount of work of implementing. And I have to point out that T2A was a heck of alot longer ago than 2-3 years...more like 9.

[rant] Actually I would say it is a lot to ask. I would guess it to be as big or bigger of a task then KR and probably far to few players who would faithfully play on it.

I find it strange that peeps will say they want that type of game play but will not play on siege. I understand that siege has a restriction of one character per account but if that is the gameplay you want it is available with only one downside. [/rant]

Re: Old school UO?

I believe the player base has changed alot, I'll try to throw a poll up, asking people how long they've been playing. I think the majority of players didn't play UO before Trammel.

Maybe 2-3 years was an inaccurate number :p I supposed 7-9 is closer to the truth.

I wouldn't think it should take much coding work to release a server like this, as it generally requires simplifying things, not to mention the fact that they probably have images of the servers saved somewhere in their computers :p

I think if they were to release a server like this, they would gain back all of the players they lost when they literally turned the game 180 degrees.

I think they changed UO from a player-skill based game to a gear based game.

I may be wrong, but doesnt seige use the resistance based spell system now? Furthermore, don't the weapons have a bunch of special enhancements?

How do you think UO got to the point it's at today? It wasn't always like you see it now. The majority of the player base joined UO many years ago when it was a completely different game. Sure, most of them might have quit by now, but if not for these pioneers (so to speak), most of the current players would have never given UO a chance.

Yeah it did, I'm just saying that boats and houses are the only thing UO has different than wow, that and the fact that its 2D.

Id agree with that to a point.

Have you tried Siege? Equipment isnt as big of an issue there because they have no insurance, so people dont generally get decked out in arties/BRK gear...

I haven't tried seige except for a few months just before Trammel came out. After hearing some of your guys thougts about it, I'm tempted to pick up an account and give it a try.

Do you know where I can find detailed info about the rules and stuff on the SP shard?

Re: Old school UO?

Way back when, there was only one option and that was UO. Now there are alot of games out there, so selection for the consumer is based upon what makes them happy.
