Re: Notes from Seattle
Yes Daithi great report! It was a pleasure to meet you at the meeting. I hope your bus ride back home was ok and you got some needed sleep.
I just want to add something to your report. They seemed genuine about the 2d client being so old and hacked up over the years of trying to get as far as it has gotten us so far. Although they said several times that it was up to us as individual players to play the client we preferred, they would like us all to venture over to KR and play around with some of the new stuff once in a while. Draconi seemed very excited about what the KR client could offer in the future that the 2d client was just simply unable to handle. I for one was not pleased with KR, but after going to this town hall and seeing some of the things explained hands on about what and how to do some things, I came home and enjoyed some KR play until the disappearing cursor bug hit me. I will be playing more KR as I do see some benefits. To my surprise the attendance was very small compared to the last Seattle town hall. Last time there were two sessions of several hundred people and this time there was only one session of less then a hundred people. There was some talk about maybe attendance was small due to no email confirmations, lack of ability to easily locate the facility. Personal I think that there are enough folks fed up with KR that they didn’t want to come. If that is true then you folks missed out. As I said I was not a fan of KR but after seeing in person what could be done and shown/explained how to set some stuff up, I was happy to give KR another try and I am glad I did. It seemed to me that they are more then aware of most of the bugs KR is going through and are working on them as best they can. Jeremy made mention that they were pressured to release early ( in other words, enough money was spent on the free upgrade move on to what is going to bring in some cash. INMHO) hence, not seeing much in advertising and teasers for new players. They knew it wasn’t ready and are playing catch up as fast as they can. Jeremy said more then once to keep the feedbacks coming in as well as the bug reports as she goes through them all and passes them along to appropriate departments. |

Re: Notes from Seattle
Gyvalor,
Why would EAMythic say anything positive about the 2D client. They want to focus only on KR. They said the exact same things about the Third Dawn client, way back when it was first released. IE, that its easier to code in, and can be added to easier, can do things that could never be done in 2D as far as visuals go. Now I am not equating the third dawn client and KR. I am trying to struggle in KR. Just pointing out that this line of KR is the future has been used before. As far as cash goes...meh for early release of KR. Its BS, why? Because they know that with the anniversary right around the corner, they can just throw some pixel crack together, slap it in a box and sell it for $20 + tax. Although I guess now that since we are so close to the anniversary date. It would not surprise me, if they just throw it up on uogametimecodes as a download for $20 or more for any even bigger profit margin. No boxes, no disks, no distribution costs. " As I said I was not a fan of KR but after seeing in person what could be done and shown/explained how to set some stuff up, I was happy to give KR another try and I am glad I did." Ok great about 100 people got some good pointers on setting up KR. How about if EAMythic posts that information up at uo.com so everyone can benefit? Instead of having to rely on the community to help muddle through it. EAMythic keeps saying that UO is not a niche game, well then do not treat it as such. Me, I think it is very much a niche game. They should focus their efforts into making it the best niche game out there. But instead we get word of mouth as our advertising. Still no commas, no stackables, factions broken for how long now, thieves still sol. Hip-hop hurray.

Hey Gyvalor, it was great to chat with you too. I was amazed we were the ONLY people who arrived early, and the low attendance really bothers me too. Hummmmm. I am glad you are trying KR because I worry about the future of UO with 2 clients, and I am sure 2d is hacked to pieces. |

Uggghhh, no gargoyles in 2d? Well that sucks.
Guess I'll have to splash out on new memory for my computer after all. |

Re: Notes from Seattle
As to flying, there is a bit of history there.
When T2A was released, nighmares could fly. You could fly mounted. Unfortunately, flying critters in UO can fly UP through floors. So we got a new house break-in, and people rode their mares in to towers (because of the overhang), then looted them clean. Now, with the new housing ruleset, this is no longer possible, BUT it could be readily exploited in dungeons and peerless. Anywhere with multilevel structures. You could just fly through things. Not to mention the whole not-getting hit part. Imagine an archer or mage flying, they could no be hit by melee moves at all.

Re: Notes from Seattle
IF, they do flying, I imagine it might be a more graphical thing, a glide look that really doesnt allow you to leave the first bottom plane, it just looks cool, but thats just my guess.
