New Website

Today I had an idea for a new UO website and unfortunate for me the domain I thought of was not taken. So within 15 minutes I had it registered and suppose I'm now committed to trying it out.

At the moment there are many different places where UO news comes from. Off the top of my head there is UO.com, UO Stratics, UO Stratics Forum, UOForums, UOGuide and of course from within UO itself. There is no one place where you can go to get all UO news neatly organized and easily accessible.

Thus the UO News Network (UONN) is born. The site will syndicated all types of UO news from patch note announcements to specific shard event reports. Whether it be by website, email or instant message, the UO News Network will be the first to bring you Britannian news.

The UO News Network is not meant to compete with any website. In fact tools will be offered so that current UO websites will be able to get news and publish it automatically on their own sites. The goal of UONN is to report the news and distribute it to the community. If you are interested in taking part in this project send me a private message. Right now all reporter positions are open, from general to shard specific.

I've put together a news system and am going to see if it works for the UONN's purposes over the next few days.

If you decide to "pull" news from UOF, you can use a variety of feeds
I think we have RSS, RSS2 and perhaps others (XML I Think)

I thought about doing this years ago, but just an idea for you because I thought it would be cool. Yes, I am a software developer.

The idea... set up a icq account that blasts to people about news and updates. It would be kind of an distribution account that just forwards updates and news. I thought about actually building a chat/server client myself to accomplish this feat. That was several years ago, before ICQ built out an API (Application Developers Interface). I believe that ICQ now has an API that can be easily automated nowadays to accomplish blasts.

Anyhoo. Just another way to get peoples to sign up and another way for you to distribute information in a timely fashion.
