New Survey and Findings Articles At Daedalus

Posted on Monday, December 4, by El of LA (CommunityNews)

We received this news from the Daedalus Project and Nick Yee.

Nick Yee runs The Daedalus Project which is a scientific online survey devoted to gaining understanding about the social and psychological aspects of MMORPG players. It seeks to find out what the "gaming culture" is, and who is a part of it. Many Ultima Online players are a part of this survey, which offers new survey questions for players and posts articles about gamers onto their website every few months.

The Daedalus Project: New Findings and Survey

The Daedalus Project is an ongoing online survey study of MMORPG players that has surveyed over 40,000 players. Some highlights of the current issue's findings:

- "Addiction" is a word that comes with a lot of cultural baggage, and simplistic portrayals by the media only make it harder to understand what's going on.
But is there a sensible middle-ground between the polarized "yes/no" stances?

- Crises and dilemmas occur a lot in MMOs. Did a player just ninja-loot an item or was it an accident? Should a Priest be allowed to roll for a Warlock set piece? See how players reacted to 3 dilemma scenarios and whether a [url= http://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/archives/001547.phphttp://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/archives/001547.php
]player's age and gender made a difference.[/urtl

This and more at The Daedalus Project.
