Hello (38 years young, married with 3 children - one of each)

I am currently downloading UO and I am looking forward to playing, as I have heard a lot of good things about the game. I don't care much for graphics, one of my most favourite games is Divine Divinity. So I'll be giving my free 30 days a real go. Hope to make some friends online.

Anyway, I would like to ask a question, is there a 'rp' server?
Any basic tips you can offer?

I jsut returned myself after a LONG hiatus.

All servers have the potential to be RP. THere is no didcated one to that though.

There are TONS of tips to help you on the way. The first thing is, we gotta figure out what you are gonna be. There is SO much in this game, that without a focus or direction, it is easy to be overwhelmed with details.

I am sure that the other members of the board wil have more info for you as to good RP servers and areas. We have a few deidcated RP'ers here that will gladly help you locate more.

What sort of direction do you think you'd like to start off in? A warrior type, hunting monsters? PvP? Crafting and selling things?

The main shards for RP are Europa and Catskills that i know of. I am from Europa where we have a very strong RP community. We play by rules which allow for all to be on an even playing field which has proved very successful, so much so that i know of at least one other shards community that is in the process of adopting them.

My only tip is to find a good guild where there are like minded people such as yourself. They will help you with equipment, training and advice.

Not 100% sure, but I hear Pacific and Atlantic have decent RP going on.

But I'll second Decardo in saying Europa has a strong RP presence.

Vesper is of course willing to equip and help train you should you come to us on Europa

I chose Europa. Im a Paladin (Arthos Du Gallan) and I must say I am impressed with the amount and type of content on offer. My Paladin feels like a Paladin! I'm enjoying it.

About the only gripe I have is the map, it isn't big enough, though that isn't really any kind of problem that impacts my enjoyment.

No this game is the real mmorpg. The rest, well, most, are just eye candy graphics with a shallow content.

Right now I am just getting to grips with everything. My Paladin is just doing quests as I am not aware of anything else I can do.

Im quite confused to be honest. I died, then was resurrected with no gear except a grey robe. I could not find my gear anywhere so I thought, no problem, i'll just delete my character and start again. Seeing as I had only just started. Now I find I cannot delete my character. It just stays there.

Also, the map, Ive installed and run it, but there is no change at all to the in game map. It's just as small with no icons or anything on it.

A character can't be deleted until it is at least seven days old. You can make up to six characters per account, per shard. I wouldn't start a new character just because you lost your gear. I am sure there are lots of players on Europa that will help outfit you again. Probably a lot better then what you had.

Which map are you talking about? The Radar one that comes with UO or UO Automap?
