New Item turn in system

Somthing that may make UO better

I know that this has probably been touched upoun already. And please tell me if it has. I'd like to elaborate on an idea I have that started with Macdaddy speaking of a new way to turn in items for better ones. The thing that hit me first was the old Clean up Ultima where people threw away a lot of things to get points which could be used to claim items and such. One major thing about UO that I've noticed is that you can pick up many good items from monster loot. Well even though they may be useless to you sombody has a use for them. But usually they already have them. Just like giving books to the liberary or pets to the zoo, why not be able to turn in good weapons, armor, clothing, ect to an NPC who in return gives you points for the items. This would greatly reduce the surplus items people keep in hopes of selling them to other players.

I know I keep around really good weapons that I think some day I'll use. For example I have a really nice halberd. It's probably not the best but impressive non the less. None of my characters have swordsmanship, I can't sell this thing on an a vendor, at bank, or at an auction. Yet I keep it around in hopes some one will want it. Then I get another almost the same. What if I were able to give these to an NPC weaponsmith who in return gave me like 100,000 points for which if I had a certain ammount I could claim an even better weapon of my choice.

Here is an example. I know there will be people to complain about this but give me some insight to what you think.

1. You have a bunch of really nice katanas that are just not selling. Not to mention you yourself don't have a char with swordsmanship. So instead you turn them in for a kryss that is better than one of the Katana's. You now have a very good wep for your fencer. How good the weapon you get should be based on how good and how many weapons you turn in.

2. You turn in your 9th anniversary shadow and crystal deco kits and a few holiday gifts for a shroud of shadow (or somthing similiar)

3. Your collecting those snow globes and can't seem to get the entire set just a lot of ones you have already. Well no fear turn in your copies and get one you don't have.

Again quantity should be taken into account. We dont want just anybody turning in junk to get somthing good. Players should be able to turn in many really good items for 1 or a few extremely good items.

My last example
4. You turn in 20 bracelets each one with about +5 and +10 stats for one bracelet with a +20 stats.

Of course what you turn in doesn't always have to do with what you get. You could go with a point system or item based (lesser attribute items for 1 of the same item with greater attribute) Also player crafted items could fetch a good amount of points. Getting the crafting skills back in the circulation. Also such rewards for points could be better ways to enhance player crafted items.

Tell me what you think of this. If this goes over well EA might have a lil e-mail to them.

An interesting topic of discussion.
But i feel whereas it was mentioned above that the rewards could be items that Rox it should just be items that are different. I dont want to see a flooding of Roxxor items on the market.

What we need is things that are different...maybe blessed clothing, as mentioned above earrings, unusual boots ( atm we only have the cu sidhe ones) etc etc

Re: New Item turn in system

If they bring a reward system into game like the old clean up system then I disagree with the whole thing of turning in your copy globes and just being able to pick the rare one, cause that take away from the rarity of the item itself. I would prefer to see them introduce all new items for the reward system not items that already exist in game. They would peeve off a lot of people if they were just going to give out items that are rare as rewards and killing the collect ability of them currently. UO has done that enough in the past, don't encourage them to do it more and make nothing have value in game lol.

Re: New Item turn in system

It seems to me that the idea would make one even more able to play Ultima Online by oneself, as one wouldn't need others to get items that one self seeks. (If that makes any sense).

I mean that player interaction might lessen even more, as i.e. a warrrior that gets useless loot (for oneself) could just trade it in for something useful. That would maybe seem as an alright solution to someone who might want to spend their time to do something else, or maybe for a single player game. Ultima Online being a multiplayer game where player to player interaction should be encouraged (IMHO) however, I reckon this might be a bad idea.
