New to game and forums with questions

Hi everyone! I came to UO a brand new player about 15 days ago. I have only ever played one other mmorpg before... and this is VERY different for me.

I am doing pretty well learning what the different skills are and slowly raising them. With the help of MANY kind players, I got set up with a bunch of goodies and even the beginnings of a house.

However... I am still confused about a few things.

How do I make money? - I am close to GM in scribe (only becuase I don't know what else to do hehe). So, I see there is a market for spellbooks.. but how do I know what to charge?

Same type of question on what to buy- how do I know how much something should cost?

I have not really ventured out of New Haven much to train my mage skills. I went to despise a few times, but get ganged up on and die more times that I like to admit! hehe
The "world" is so big- I don't know where to go or what to do.

I have so many other questions, but these are my main two. Thanks to all who can help )

I suppose as a Scribe you can make scrolls and sell them back to NPC's, but that will probably end up costing you more money, as in cost more to buy the stuff, then selling the completed scroll.

You can try to sell them to other players, but too many already have all the crafter's they need to do things for them.

You can kill animals and sell their skins/hides & meat.

Hopefully some others will pipe in here soon, and offer more advise.

Welcome to UO Forums. There are MANY ways to make gold. As you work your skills up and take on harder challenges, you will make more too.

Also check out who the guilds on your shard. Ask who is who and what those guilds are about. And try hanging out with a few of the ones that interest you... to see if you enjoy playing with those guilds or others. Guilds are a great way to learn the games and play with others at the same time. Most are friendly and helpful to new players too.

Hello let me also add my welcome.

Myself i play on the Europa shard, and in the beginning i was lucky enough to meet with another player who helped my warrior find his legs and way around the land. With their help i soon amassed a little pile of gold and my skills soon progressed.

Trading has always been the quickest way to get rich, and if this is the road you wisht o take i would recommend speaking with the players who run the major vender shops on your shard. They can tell you what items sell best and maybe even offer you a vendor in which to sell your items out of. That way they do all the publisizing which is what makes/breaks a good vender shop. ( You can usually see them gateing continually from Brit Bank, at least on Europa ).

If you play on Europa i will be glad to help you in any way i can, its something i enjoy doing alot helping the new players in our land, along with a few others around Haven.

Once you get the hang of it money gets easier to make. Do you just have the one Char you made or do you have several? Also what shard do you play? There are lots of great people in this game. You may want to try one of the less populated graveyards or the one in have to work up mage skills and make some gold.

I am on Legends. I picked it becuase it was the first one listed when I signed on to play I am also in a guild, it seems to be a quiet guild and not very large. The people who are on at the same time have been very helpful. However, I feel like I am bugging them to death with my questions. LOL

I only have the one character- for right now. It has been difficult enough trying to figure out the one character that I don't think I am ready to try a second one yet.

I overheard someone talking last night saying that when they started it took them over a month to realize there was more to the game than New Haven. That is how I feel. I would like to explore a bit more.

If you have not lost "young" status you might wish to travel as you will be safe from attacks except in dungeons. When we first started back in 99, our first char was what they called a warrior/mage, and we trained her to scribe recalls,[50gp per back then] which we sold from the bank [no house back then] As our skill grew with the scribing, we begin to sell gates scolls [100 gp per] and then when we hit 8th circle selling the EV's and resing [200 gp per] scolls.

Another way to earn gold, hit the despise with a warrior and stay in the top level, kill lizmen, skin and cut the hides to make leather, take the leather to the bank and buy from the banker Commodity deeds [5 gp per deed] and place the leather in deed form [leather in the main bank box , deed in same box, double click it then target the leather], the deeds are blessed and you can carry with you when you try to sell at the bank to others. I suggest you ask for 12-15 gp per piece of Spined leather. at 1000 pieces that adds up to 12k - 15k.

Welcome to our world, and when you hit 1yr old save your vet rewards till you hit three yrs, you get more gold then if you wait to sell or trade.

Also check out the UO.com store, you can buy the armor horse token for $10. Something any player can ride regardless of age of account.
